I am in the process of helping my father inlaw purchase an 04 3500 Ram. I have an 01. 5 and was wondering what problems that I know about in the 01s carried over to the third generation trucks. Do I have to worry about fuel pumps? What about the improved auto transmission? I have an edge box and a DTT valvebody upgrade in mine but I never drive in OD below 1500 rpm and about 1700 rpm when pulling 8500lbs. Will he have the same concens? I know he will not want to upgrade the trans and he puills a 12000 fifth wheel trailer. Nay info you guys could pass along would be appreciated.

Fuel pump is not a concern, unless he wants more horsepower. It is a new design.



The jury is still out on the transmission. Since he's going to tow with it, I would recommend upgrading with a ____________ (insert favorite brand) kit, or get a 6 speed.

Well I went and test drove one tonight and I have to admit I really like my 01. The new one was a ho 600 but I think my truck with the edge box and the transmission upgrade was a little better. The 600 dedfinatley feeels stronger than mine did stock though. I prefer the interior of my 01 also. I also am paronoid about the auto transmission as I am religious about not driving in od and I am not sure he will be as on top of that.
