3rd gen smarty read codes on 2nd gen?

Will the 3rd gen smarty read dtcs on a 2nd gen? Would like to make sure before I drive 30 miles to a friends house who's 2nd gen wont start (pretty sure the VP went south)

Good question. But I'm sure it will work on any domestic w/ OBD 2nd gen.
