Got some 3rd gen aluminum/chrome clad wheels. I've been doing some searching around for tire sizes that would be good and I've come across some backspacing comments. Does anyone have any insight/info on putting these wheels on my truck? Tire sizes with our without a leveling kit?
It depends on how big you want to go. I ran 285/75/16 (32.8") with no leveling kit for several years before I went to 4th gen wheels. The equivalent to that in a 17" wheel is a 285/70/17 (32.7") I would think you could run that and be fine. I'm running 285/75/17s (33.8") but I also have +2" coil springs on the front...I'm not sure you could run them with out any lift in the front without having clearance issues.
I personally went with 285/75s over 285/70 because to me the 285/70 seems like it bulges out on the wheel too much. A lot of people run the 70 and like them, you will have a much larger selection to choose from as there are only 3 or 4 manufacturers that even make the size I run.
