Anyone have the muffler elimination pipe on a 3rd gen, and if so, are you happy with the sound? I'm thinking of going this route, but many of the one's that I've heard sound like an old slant six with no muffla

Mine sounded pretty good when I lost the muffler, but I wanted the true str8 pipe and lost the kitty to a str8 piece of sewer pipe.

i've got 5'' stacks striaght but with the kat. loud if you get on it otherwise sounds like a rig sitting there idling.

Mine sounds great with the cat and ME pipe. It has had a negative effect on my mileage, however, since I can't keep my foot off the volume control! :D

I will be going to the MBRP before towing any distance, however. Straight is just too loud for my taste under heavy loads.

Loud enough to get the wife to complain, as well as a few odd looks from the neighbors. The cab resonance was terrible at highway speeds, or any time towing. After about 1 month I installed a walker 21" straight through muffler from air flow technologies, and the attenuation is just right. RAY

I think the straight-pipe sound is certainly acquired. I personally love the way a Peterbuilt sounds expelling burnt #2 through dual 6" stacks w/ no muffler. My 325/600 sounds similar in fashion. In fact my Mother stopped by to borrow my truck today, when she drove away, I couldn’t believe how good it sounded. Also my neighbor has the same truck as me, and his is all stock, he could not believe how tame it sounds inside the cab.

I had mine straight-piped for over a year. Around town it wasn't too bad, but I finally couldn't stand the noise/droning while towing. I put the stock muffler back on and am looking for a replacement. I'm leaning toward the MBRP.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I'll go a different route. I for sure don't want the droning towing over 11k w/4:10's

Does MBRP sell a direct replacement for the stock muffy? If so (roughly) how much does it cost. I checked on DPP's site and it only lists complete systems.

I tried the straight pipe route for about a month, then had a Magnaflow installed. Throaty sound (rather than just loud from the straight pipe). Drone is not bad at all, but it is definitely louder than the stock muffler.

My buddy just installed a MBRP muffler on his Dynomax, and it is way too quiet for me. Don't know how they sound on the CTD, but his sounds like stock.
