Biodiesel vs diesel

Half Pay-At-The-Pump

Paid $4. 05 yesterday. Outrageous. Demand is easing slightly in the US, production is high, winter season is almost over... . so why the high prices? Why SO MUCH more than gas? I am frustrated. I think my Harley will see a lot of miles this summer.....

I heard today on Fox News on my satelite radio they said with oil now closing at a new record it will reflect at the pump by the end of the week or early next week. They said 30-50 cents more per gallon will be the average cost rise across the nation for all fuels.

Yep, no lines at the pump or shortages anywhere, just plain greed I think. Once we come in line with European pricing it will level off is my bet:mad:

The Europeans and Japanese are way ahead of the curve in developing diesel motors for passenger cars. They are in the process of cornering the market in the next year or two. The American manufacturers need time to catch up. The way to do that is to make it just as expensive to drive a diesel vehicle as it is to drive a gasoline vehicle. The interesting thing is that the federal govt has to authority to fix the price of fuel to protect the economy. The delivery cost of just about everything we use is impacted by the cost of diesel which in turn impacts the economy. So, why hasn't the president stepped in to protect the ordinary citizen? His inaction makes this a rhetorical question.

The American Automotive Industry has had years to catch up and it is not like they did not know. Their market share has been steadly erroded by foreign companies that are giving the consumer what they want, better efficiency.

If I am not mistaken GM is now behind Toyota. We constantly hear American companies pushing new design in everything, but, and it is a larg BUT, fuel economy.

They have the ability and the technoligy:mad: The real question is do they have the brains they claim they do for giving the consumer what the consumer has been asking for, for many, many years.

All the intelligence in the world won't help them compete in a free market if they don't get out of their glass and ivory towers and talk with consumers. Not just a few consumers number around 1,000 to 1,500, but millions of consumers. Haveing worked in manufacturing and seeing corporate brains at work, they are not all that bright. Particularly when they ignore their best resource, the working guys on the floor and waste $1. 8 million to hire 6 guys to tell them how to improve efficiency when their own employees have been telling them the same ideas for over 5 years already.

If you want to build an 3/4 ton full sized truck that can get 30+ mpg, it can be done. They have the ability, but do they have the will? That is the one thing that gripes me, this country's RD sections in industry gives away ideas because they don't see a payback in the near future, which is usually 2 to 4 years depending. Then sure as heck that same idea comes around to bite us in the butt from a foriegn competor and we then hear to old song and dance from industry that the foreign guys are not playing fair for whatevery exucse is close at hand, because they took and idea that was cast off as too expensive by us and no one would buy it, and looked at it and worked it and now have something that our industry can not touch because we are now several years behind.

CEO's do not seem to learn anything ;)from History.

Honda is putting out an Accord Diesel for 2010 that gets 62mpg, I think one is in my future. If the EPA removed its head from a dark place we would have ALOTof the new diesels selling in the US already.

This is just crazy. when is the revolution going to start?

When it hit $1. 80 there were a few people demonstrating in DC.

Then it went past $2, and nobody said a word, or the media ignored them.

When it dropped back to $2, there was jubilation. Then it went to $3. Now there would be jubilation if it went back down to $3.

Heat the pot slowly, and the frog will not jump out until it is too late.

The Philips 66 in Niles MI hit $4. 50 a gal. for diesel yesterday. All other gas stations were asking $4. 00 bucks. Now they are all @ $4. 09 a gal. today.
