I have purchased a new 2005 HO 610 with a 4. 10 RE. However, I have concerns as to the RE choice. I live in SW FL. where it is mostly flat, so my question for the pro's is this . . just how much will I loose on fuel economy at 70 mph as opposed to a 3. 73 . . dealer says 1 mpg . . but they are sellers . . if it is dramatic, how difficult is it to change the RE to 3. 73? It is 4wd, so I gather it will be done front and back, but is it just gears, or do you need new computers as well?

Thanks,

William

I can't answer your question however if I were you I would simply go to a 34 or 35" tall tire to make up the difference for 70 mph use on the flats with those gears.

Changing gear sets would be hard pressed to get your money back in fuel savings, would prolly take a looong time.

Which transmission do you have?

Keep in mind the new 6 speeds have a . 79:1 OD vs. the old . 73:1. In other words it's like having 4. 10s in 6th even though I have 3. 73s. I'm going to put a 35" tire on it and be done with it. :D

I have the 4:10's and I've gotten as much as 19. 5mpg hand calculated. I think the wind drag going faster than 75mph will have more effect on your mileage than the gears. If you do decide you want to swap for 3:73's, it might be easier to swap the entire axle with someone that want's the 4:10s.

a buddy of mine once quoted me $600-$700 to do that swap ... ... ..... I decided to stay with the 4:10's and am glad I did

Im in San Diego and may consider a trade if you had the limited slip in it? SRW, 4. 10 right?

I have the tools...

Im almost positive you don't need a new computer. dealer can reprogram the computer with thier DBR. any techs out there that can tell us for sure...

I bought mine with 4. 10's so I could put taller tires and still

have some gear left over.

If you put some 34. 5-35" tall tires on it, the end result will

be the same as 3. 73's with stk tires.

Plus I think the bigger tires look good on these new dodges.

fills in those huge fenderwells.

Enjoy your new ride!

I wish I had the 4. 10's. Swinging 35"s takes a bit of effort with 3. 73's. Truck feels like a slug now, too.

If you plan to get some bigger tires, keep the 4. 10's.

Now, if I can only find someone to trade trannies with...

The G56 sounds perfect for me.

I'd probably trade axles with someone if I had the chance. SF Bay Area.

I have the 4 speed automatic. Sorry for not clarifying that earlier.
