285's !!!

Ask your buddy to trade you trucks for a couple of days and put your wheels and tires on his truck!! then you will know if you like it or not !!! If you can hook your trailer to his truck and see if it will pull it like you want ?

Guy

:) good luck!

(PS id do it !!!... just my opinion!)

Okay, the next most obvious question, is that if I do this, what about the Speedo?? Can a normal speedometer shop fix this or is this a stealer dealer thing?

You will need something like the Superlift TruSpeed Sensor Calibrator for the 98 and up Dodge 4WH ABS trucks. Actually, if you just change the rear end and the tires are stock (or a stock size) either 1) the speedometer will be correct or 2) the dealer can change the parameter in the PCM for your stock size tires to make your speedometer accurate. The reason for this is the speed sensor system on the rear end is the same no matter what rear end ratio you have. The speed ring makes 1 revolution for every revolution of the tire. No adjustments necessary. If you change the tire size (and I believe you already have – 285/75 and I think the largest stock size is 265/75), then you will have to account for the extra distance traveled by the larger tires that Dodge won’t correct. Programmatically, it would be easy to do in the PCM, but politics, liability, etc. , often get in the way of the simple, straightforward solutions.

Id go for it,i have the auto w/ 4. 10 's. I also have 285 tires,i tach at 2100 @ 70 mph, perfect IMO. Dont go by the guys with standard trannys, there OD is not as tall as the auto's,they tach about 150-200RPM's more than us auto guys do . ,combine that with taller tires, and there is a big difference between 2200 at 75 in my truck and 2500 at 75 with a 5/6 speed, and stock tires.

Snowman, do you get a higher level of vibration at 2100 rpm/70 mph? I stay away from that combo because I don't like the sound of it. Should I be concerned? ( I have the auto w/4:10)

I have zero vibration ,i do have a nasty drone from the jardine exhaust though. When it was stock there was no vibration either,I rarley drive 70-i usually go 80-85 if traffic and weather permits. If you drive 70 you get passed a lot here. What combination dont you like the sound of? I love how mine sound when its wound tight at 2500+.

I get excessive vibration in the 70 mph, 2150 rpm range. It doesn't sound healthy - like if I ran it at that range for too long it would tear apart. Above and below it is ok.
