Have you switched from 6-spd to 48RE?

Well its better the any GAS burner v8 truck out there. I filled up yesterday and had things to do around the Athens bypass. Drove easy but normal and used cruise on the bypass at no more then 60 mph. Kinda doing this for gigs. Drove with several stops/a little idle etc. Filled up again last night. Hand figured 19. 4 and overhead showed 19. 1! I was shocked!! But I never went over 60 or so. Best no matter how I did it I've ever seen on this truck. My 98 1500 slt with 318 has NEVER popped 17. 19k on odometer.

I have a 2003 with the 4:10's and have hand-calculated the mileage since I got the truck. I checked it a couple months ago and I was getting 19. 6 mpg empty. The truck is bone stock. I do know that driving above 70 mph dramatically drops the fuel mileage. Last year out west I was running close to 80mph for awhile and according to the overhead I was getting around 14 MPG and I believe that was probably pretty close. My 2001 with 3:54's was a fantastic road machine and it consistently got almost 21mpg and it was relaxing to drive it at 70-75. Everybody says the Cummings will run at higher rpm's all day long, and I'm sure it will... . but the 4:10's just makes it feel like it's wound up a little tighter than it ought to be... . unless I'm pulling a decent load, then I'm glad I got 'em. My truck has 56000 miles on it.

4.10s with 315s

I am tickled pink with the way mine runs with 4. 10s and 315s. My sweet spot is about 72mph. :-laf

Hey CumminsZ, What are you getting for milage with the 315's? I thought about going to the 315 bfg's but went with 285's because of less tire weight and rolling resistance, being that the 315's are wider and taller.

05' 4. 10's I usually get between 14 and 16 depending on driving, and this is empty and a heavy foot. I have kept records of every tank now with 14 k on the clock and with prices climbing and a challenge from a co worker My last tank 20. 0 Overhead 19. 33 hand calculated. My overhead is currently reading 22. 0, but I am going between 50 and 55 on the highway . Trying to see what my best MPG will be.

I wouldn't recommend going 50mph for the weak of heart. I thought going 80mph was dangerous, I gotta say going 53 is much more scary. CT drivers are insane... ..... What happened to the Speed Limit meaning the Fastest you are allowed to go?

Oh I will update when I fill up on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks for reminding me to look up the posts :D 13 was what I got the last time I pulled about 5K on a 200 mile round trip on the FL turnpike.

I've got 46,000 miles on my '03 6 speed HO; and have filled it up 123 times since new.

My overall fuel mileage average is 17. 3 mpg; Highest tank was 21, with many 19's and 20's in the mix. The lowest was 14. 1; had 4 other tankfuls in the 14's as well. Most of those miles include about 900 pounds of stuff in the truck and/or pulling a small utility trailer.

I've never did a tank draining session with the Formula hooked up behind me so I cannot give you any solid hand calculated numbers pulling the boat; but my overhead usually says 13. 5 while pulling the boat. Its certainly much better than the 5 mpg my old Ford/460 got (and those numbers WERE hand calculated).

I went to order a truck with 3. 73's but this one was sitting on the lot with 4. 10's. I like them.

Our trip out west.

We filled up at home the day we left and kept a journal of every time where we filled and how much fuel. The only two times we actually calculated a tank was when I had just pulled many long grades and the worst I got was 9. 5... With an average of 13. 5 that means there were a couple of times we must have gotten 15. :-laf

3. 73 owners with these new motors don't know what they are missing.

Hey RC,

My 04. 5 (4. 10, 6-spd, 4WD 2500 Short Bed) has 22K on it. I have recorded every gallong of fuel put in the tank, and I consistantly tank the same way every time.

I average 13. 876 mpg when towing my 8,600 lb. 5'er long haul in the interstate.

Bobtail I average 17. 434 local and highway.

The best I've gotten was a bobtail trip to Maine on NH 101, I-95. That trip got me 20. 115 mpg.

On long haul interstate drives, whether bobtail or towing, I stick it in 6th at 2000 rpm. With this drivetrain it looks like 62 mph on the speedometer. 2K is where I get my best tradeoff for mileage and speed. I could probably do better at 55mph, but a guy could get killed doing that, even in the right lane.

I had the flash done way back at about 5K miles and saw a marked improvement when the truck passed 18K miles. I think I'm getting about the best that I can expect. I'm pretty happy about the mileage I'm getting and with the whole truck. No whine, no wiggle, no catostrophic vibes from the rear end. It runs just like a DC CTD should.
