My truck is extremly sluggish with in town driving. I know my big tires and big turbo dont help,but I would love to drive it with out smoking everyone out with the slightest touch of the go peddal. Im also trying to help my egts a bit. Thanks.
 
Adjusting your Edge box or Smarty settings would be much cheaper than changing gears. I wouldn't go lower than 4. 10s. I have 315's on my '01 with 4. 10s and I really wish I had 3. 50s.
 
Going 4. 5:1 or lower shrinks the pinion gear to much. I wouldnt be comfortable with it. At least when running big power.

I dont think it is an issue... ... ... . there have been some pretty high powered CTDs do the Baja on 4. 56's
 
If your DD2s are the older extrude honed injectors, you'll clear up a lot of your smoke by going to an EDM type. Maybe the Mach 2s or if you want to stick with DD, maybe their Jammer 2s.

I dont know how much your talking about blowing smoke all over. I have a 6 speed and smarty always on sw 9 and tq on 6 and TST on 5-7. when I went to mach 4's this cleared up some smoke issues. but very drivable. I have 3. 54 rear with 35's for tires. my turbo is the same as yours. try adjusting your smarty or turning it off and run just your attitude and see if its the same. how much timing or what timing setting are you running. you said with the slightest pedal you smoke. I can smoke out a complete freeway if I want but not the slightest pedal. try running with just the smarty on. what type of transmission do you have stock mid-bombed heavy bombed. etc. How is your air intake working for you I have a AFE and my egts never see over 1200 on WOT. I did switch to a diff filter to try and all I got was higher EGTs in town driving and a louder intake whistle. (amsoil dry) so I went back to my AFE. didnt seem I was getting enough air IMO. good luck
