I have 3:54's with the 6spd. and consider the gearing marginal. Any less power and I think I'd definitely be wanting the 4:10's. Unloaded the 3:54's are great but I'd sacrifice the 1-2 mpg for the towing comfort any day. Don't let the 4:10's go because of mileage, they'll more than make up for it if you add larger tires or tow.

I have the 6 speed 4. 10's with 6000 miles on the truck and get about 17. 3 MPG mixed city local streets and city freeway driving. If you don't do alot of high speed freeway driving empty, I think the 4. 10's get about the same milage. I think I'm having Da Za Voo (sp) or a senior moment, I thing I already mentioned this on this same thread.

My truck has 3. 54s. Ideally i think that it should have 4. 10s..... and a US Gear overdrive!:D All it takes is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :{

My 2cents

My truck is a 99 quadcab 4x4 with a 5spd and 4:10s and my best milage is just a little over 25mpg and worst is a little less than 14mpg. The best milage was obtained on a trip to Fort Worth TX while pulling an empty 24' goose neck horse trailer. My worst milage came just a month ago hauling round bails. I hauled 5 loads of 13 round bails, each load was about 34,600lbs:D and I never could get out of 3 gear on the roads I was running on. I personaly do not like the 3:54 gears way to sluggish for my likings and I get good enough fuel milage out of the 4:10s to keep them in the next truck I buy. My buddy Stevie has a 2001 with 3:54s and a 6spd and it runs pretty good but still feels to weak off the line and who wants to shift an extra time any ways. :rolleyes: He does make me look like I'm sitting still on the expressway when he passes me at well over a 100mph though#@$%!. but my 4:10s do just fine on the road whith my empty truck I don't need to go over 90mph anyways (done got 1 ticket for doing 88 in a 55) :( In the 98 and up trucks (you know the ones with the right number of valves):p, I don't think the motor is really that loud at 2500rpms either just sounds like a diesel to me. :-laf

Just one dumb country boy's opinion. Oo.
