X2 for the Gas buddy. . wonderful App. works as well as those that update it. . it will show when the last time the prices were updated. .

Oh and have you read that US is a large Exporter of fuel?/... seems that all of our reducing demand is making for some supply. . so we sell it to make the profit lack from our reducing which keeps our prices up... grrr!!

$3. 49 at the cheap-oh station in town. Gonna get 20 gallons at $2. 63 due to accrued shopping points at local grocery store. Every little bit helps. Plus the 10 gallons of veggie oil per tank drives the fuel cost even lower.

I paid $3. 529/gallon for diesel at Murphy's (Wal-Mart) on I-20 in Abilene, TX last week. You guys in Kalifornia eat your hearts out.

10 gallons of pure refined veggie oil in every tank and your 6. 7 will start like a 24V and you'll have more money in your pocket. Over 50K on veggie oil in my 6. 7 and I love the savings. The excess oil I sell to a Park Ranger in Asheville (for his Mercedes wagon) and a truck driver here locally (for his 05 Duramax).

Assuming a cost of $2/gal for refined WVO, then a fill-up of diesel and WVO is about $3. 18/gal. In the summer I can run 50/50 so the savings increase with the temp.

If you are traveling go to Diesel fuel prices and surcharge in highway truck stops and click on the Logo of the major truck stop (including Pilot/ Flying J) for the current Diesel (also some Gas) prices that you are interested in.

Another site that can be helpful go to http://www.gocomchek.com/ Just enter the Highway/Interstate#, State and direction of travel and it will show all the truck stops from one end of the state to the other end in the direction of travel. On both of these sites be sure to check the date of the price.

This post has gotten somewhat off the subject of my original post- Why is Diesel about a $1. 00 more than gas and why isn’t there more outrage among the Truckers and Farmers? Are we becoming a nation of wimps?

I have written the local newspaper stating my feelings about the “S/E Idaho and UT I-15 Oil Cartel” and the $1. 00/gal price differential!

T"he truckers don't really care since the majority drive for a company now and a surcharge gets tacked on. It doesn't come out of their pockets. I'm sure the independent drivers complain but there's not enough of them to make a difference. As far as you and I complaining well how far you think that will go? Drive something else is what we'd hear.

The above is what I was told by a driver who hauls round wood and chips. He gets a surcharge from the company but buys his own fuel. BTW he's not driving anymore but someone took his place. I can't speak about any farmers but it could be why food items have gone up due to their costs.

What makes you think that independent truckers are going by the wayside?

More than ever there are independent truckers with ICC authority bidding on loads and doing quite well as they dont have the overhead that the BIG companies have. They to add the surcharge for fuel into their bids . Actually some of the independents are doing loads that the companies dont want to touch because of the type of product. Oil for one is a big buck mover Companies that have specialty oil products need base stock moved in

lesser quantities and the larger trucking companies dont want to mess with a load a week. Specialty fuels are another load that the big boys dont want because they would have to have quite a few drivers qualified and certified to transport the product that the cost of the cert's make the load not worth it but for the independent with 2 or 3 trucks can keep the same drivers on the loads and turn the loop both ways loaded and add half of the washout of the tank to both companies run 2 products and paid both way's. Independent trucking is a great opportunity for a guy that is always thinking and keeps his eye's and ear's open. The key to this is getting the product to the destination on time any MORON CAN HOOK UP AND GET IT THERE SOMETIME but get it there without incident and have a nice appearance and equipment that looks like it can make it out the gate without taking a dump.

There is a guy that I worked with at a major oil company when the company got rid of the drivers he picked up his Cert's and PUC/ ICC authority and started with 2 trucks one year ago last Oct. Now he has 8 trucks and as many drivers supplying above average wages for above average drivers and with very good benefits. NOT BAD FOR A MAN WITH A HIGH SCHOOL DEPLOMA. Just because the big boy companies have all these educated idiots dont make them a trucking company its the TRUCKERS THAT MAKE THE COMPANY and the successful ones have figured this out

Richardcoxid asked the question why isn't there more outrage from the truckers/farmers about the price of diesel. You didn't address this but instead offered the opinion that the independents adding a surcharge may explain why there's no outrage from the trucking side. "That's what I think too. The end user is the one who pays. Maybe that's the answer to his question with farmers too.

You seem to have misunderstood the sentence you quoted. I didn't say that the independents were going by the wayside but rather meant that they are fewer in number and their voices don't even get heard if they were to complain. But as you said they add their surcharge so no need for them to b***h either.

Supply and demand. Our economy is at its lowest point since the depression of the 1930s so discretionary personal travel in private automobiles by families and individuals is way down because people can no longer afford it. This means demand for gasoline is down and that has caused refiners to export gasoline. Diesel is always in high demand during the winter heating season because thousands of homes in the northeastern US are heated with oil. A similar price shift occurs every winter.

Just filled up in Baton Rouge, la. for $3. 46 a gallon. If our great pres would let us start drilling again, it would probably go to $3. 25.
