For what its worth, I have a brand new one in the classifieds for sale. It's older, purchased in '90 for a conversion project into a suburban, but never installed. Still on the shipping pallet. Proper CPL number.

Jay,

I'm curious. How much does one of those 4BT engines weigh?

George

it weighs 700lbs with the adapter. About 550 without. The adapter to which the bellhousing attaches is solid cast iron and weighs about 125-150 lbs or so.

A fresh reman 3. 9 4BTAA CPL# 1839 from Cummins will cost you a little over $5,000 plus a $2,000 core charge. I can get you a part number if you want it. For that kind of money I personally would just get a 5. 9.

i would usually agree, but weight and size are sometimes an issue. i really dont need another 400lbs on the front axle, and lenght. of course i can afford neither, just explaining my 4bt decision

I understand your reasons. The 3. 9's are in quite a few older custom chassis Freightliner trucks. Got one in the shop right now. Trying to get him to buy the reman so we can scarf up the original.
