I had my Jardine 4" system put in today. .

WHAT A DISASTER!!!!!
I THINK I MAY HAVE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!!!

I have a friend who owns a muffler shop and I helped him install the kit...

I'll go over the major problem areas:

1)The down pipe from the turbo has a flange bracket on it that has 2 holes through it that allow the bolts to pass through and screw into the turbo elbow.
Mine was mis-stamped and we needed to open the holes in order to allow the bolt to enter the elbow squarely.
This procedure also required 3 men to do.
one up top to align the bracket and hold the bolts. . one with a loooong socket wrench and one to hold the pipe up.

2) My pipes were cut to the wrong length.
a call to jardine confirmed that I ordered the correct version. . but they cut the pipes too short.
To correct this the tailpipe section was used as a "filler" to make up the differance.
jardine is sending a new tailpipe and clamp but for now the exhaust ends after it comes over the axle.

3) NOT A SINGLE HANGER FIT PROPERLY...
Were talking WAY OFF HERE. . every one either required. . lots of bending or ended up in the garbage and custom hangers were welded up by my friend.

4) And last but not least. . the thing that HURTS the most... .
IT SOUNDS TERRIBLE!!!!!
It has a HISS... HISS... HISS... HISS sound that sounds EXACTLY LIKE A LEAK... . HOWEVER THE SOUND COMES RIGHT OUT THE END OF THE PIPE...
I believe this is a result of the "Glasspack" design of the muffler.

As I said, the system is on... the stock one is in pieces... I have to got to work tomorrow... there is no tailpipe. . the last set of hangers will need to be custom made and welded on when the tailpipe comes in... and I'm sitting here TOTALLY DEPRESSED... I FEEL LIKE I JUST RUINED MY TRUCK...

I Blew all the money I had available to me as "Disposable income" on this system, and I'm SERIOUSLY TRYING TO FIGUIRE OUT A WAY TO PAY FOR A JRE SYSTEM TO REPLACE THIS THING WITH!!!!

I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS HERE... . I NEED HELP!!!!!

Larry

Larry,

I read your post earlier and believe me my heart goes out to you. What did the people a Jardine have to say. I am anxious to hear what other member who bought the Jardine system have to say.
I was considering buying Jardine but went with JRE instead. I installed it a week ago.

The JRE install when great. The only thing was the front hanger was to long and had to be cut. Also, I am not in love with the angle of the tail pipe. I installed the muffler and a resonator. The sound is just what I was looking for.

I know none of this helps you but I'm sure you'll get it resolved. Hang in there!!!

Arlan

Larry,
I hate it when things like that happen!!!!
We all been there and can feel your pain. I hope Jardine makes you happy in the end.
Hang in there,
Ron

Larry, I know how you feel. I spent $500 building my own dual 4" system only to remove it a week later because it sounded like crap and didn't lower my EGT any more than my free flowing 3". I've been told that 3" won't cut it and I have to have 4" so I might adapt what I already have in 4" to the rear half of my dual 3" that is on the truck now.

Larry,
Gave these people a call as I have their system sitting in the garage ready to install. They came me an explaination that you didn't follow the directions the way it was suppposed to be installed.
Can you give me a update?
Thanks,
Mike

Sorry to hear about your problems with the exhaust, Larry. Don`t feel bad. I have felt like I have ruined my truck Many times. I had a nightmare time with the DT Heim joint T-bar last weekend. Sent the thing back.

It sounds like the Jardine exhaust has its problems. I, like Mike have one ready to try? to install this Sat. The last thing I want is more aggravation from non-Mopar aftermarket products that just don`t fit. Its very annoying. An easy way to waste/ruin a day. #ad

Work the bugs out of the Jardine exhaust. You will be alright. I think when the tailpipe is installed, the exhaust tone will change to a more desireable sound.

Mike says Jardine said you didn`t follow the directions? I don`t believe that at all. You said you had a friend help that does exhaust work. It should have went real smooth.

Keep us Updated #ad

Mike, We may want to pull our OE exhaust off in 1 or 2 pieces. I`m gonna forget the sawzall method now. Just incase it needs to go back on. #ad

PS: If you hear someone yelling and exhaust pipe clanging Saturday, It will be me. #ad

If I had a dollar for every time I started a project, got halfway through, and asked myself why I was doing it.

I considered a mandrel bent 3" system for my 69 Camaro, but my friend who runs a muffler shop said that most times they don't fit without some additional bending and then you spend more and get the same results as you would have building one from scratch.

Mine hasn't come yet but I will be SURE to post as soon as it comes and I get it on. I sure hope that Larry's problem was an isolated case since I had heard good things about the Jardine system before I ordered it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see #ad
I do feel for you though Larry and I am sorry that you had/are having so much trouble.

When MFG's say "It's a bolt on option" I always run like hell. I have yet to find something that says bolt and not have to modify it somehow. Good luck, BTW I did put on the ME kit from Geno's went fairly easy after cutting out the old muffler. Sounds great, EGT's are within normal parameters, next is the cat.

The easiest exhaust system I ever installed was a Flowmaster system on my 71 502 Chevelle. Had to do some slight trimming on the H-pipe but it looks like a factory install and sounds AWESOME. I hope the Jardine is that simple.

Larry I received my Jardine last Wed, 5-3-00. Spent Thurs & Fri installing it, (picked at it, had other things to do also). I got the down pipe in place by myself, used 3 long extensions, socket, ratchet. Had to modify 2nd bracket back, (slight bending to get correct angle), and then the last bracket before the tail pipe section went on was inadequate, to say the least. It was a single that replaced a double bracket, and it fell out real easy. I fabbed up an additional hanger rod to fit the double hanger on the truck, and set it up to enter the rubber isolator from the opposite direction, thereby putting a "squeeze" on the hanger. All worked fine. The last section of pipe, (after the axle), utilized a clamp, and to me was visible and ugly, so I welded it on, and as well, welded the fabbed rod(s) to the pipe to eliminate that clamp, as it too was visible from the side of the truck. Mine too, "HISSED" at startup, but after a short drive to heat everybody up prior to final tightening, it went away. Now has relatively low "rumble". I'm not trying to "flame" you, and I know this is supposed to be a simple "bolt-on" operation, but I've seen few that actually turned out that way. (Also, I've fit pipe for 30 years). I've learned to expect this kind of stuff over the years in order to "save a buck". BUT, after you work out the little bugs, and still don't like the muffler sound, it's not a big deal to go to a muffler of your choice-IMHO. With the help of your muffler buddy, you can work out the problems and go from there. I would even call Jardine and see if they will take the muffler back or trade for one of your choice. If I can be of any help at all, please feel free to e-mail me, I'll do all I can. --Ron #ad

Well. . Thanks for all the kind words from everyone...

I HAVE TO NOW SAY THAT JARDINE IS A COMPANY TO DO BUISNESS WITH!!!

After relaying my tales of woe to jerry. . they agreed to refund my cost AND SHIP THE UNIT BACK AT THEIR EXPENSE!!!

I've instisted to them that I WILL PAY for the return shipment!!!

I can see no reason for someone to take a loss on this transaction. They were STRAIGHT WITH ME... SO I"LL BE DAMNED IF I"M NOT 'GONNA BE STRAIGHT WITH THEM!!!!...

I think it also shows them that I gave their system my BEST SHOT. . but found out the hard way that this was NOT what I thought a performance exhaust should sound like.

I mean the install woes are over now. . (except that the pipe ends after it comes over the rear axle and they were going to send that to me at N/C).

The system. . for all the problems it gave me... works... (i. e. the spool up of the turbo has got to be felt to be appreciated... )

But. . and a BIG BUT. . is that I've had cars with holes in the exhaust (from rot) that sounded better.

After looking at everything... and listening to the sound it makes... I can't accept it.

No HARM No Foul... ... and for this Jardine has my RESPECT.

I have now got a plan... . we will see where it leads... trust that I'll keep everyone here posted. .

Again. . thanks to EVERYONE... especially. . Jerry and Matt at Jardine. . Mike Vonada , HEMI®Dart, and Ted. .

Has anyone installed their Jardine exhaust yet?. Mine is going to go on tomorrow, weather permiting.

Larry Q stopped by the house today to hear me listen to his truck. It does have a funny hiss noise coming right out of the tail pipe. It just comes over the rear axle and stops. I don`t think adding additional pipe will help.

I didnt think the muffler sounded thatgreat either but abuddy thought it sounded pretty good. So i scraped the muff and threw in a straight pipe now she sounds good.

I installed mine yesterday. The most problem I had was getting the old system off. I did have to drill out the down pipe flange bracket holes just a little(one bolt just wouldn't get in the hole) and I'm going to have to call them about the tail pipe(neither end was flared?!)but other than those 2(I think small)things it went on great and sounds very nice #ad
I didn't get a muffler at all(who puts on 4" exhaust and wants quiet!). I've definately had worse bouts with exhausts that weren't even full replacements. I can't complain about this one other than not having the last piece go on at all(didn't want to try my brazing skills besides not having any rod on hand) For that price I can't complain one bit #ad

I love my 4" system that I got for my 95 from Jardine. Came about 4 days after I ordered it, which really surprised me when everyone was saying they hadn't even received their systems. The system fit right into place and all the brackets worked fine. I ordered mine without the muffler and I love the sound. Also dropped EGT at least 200 degrees while towing compared to the stock with a straight pipe and a free flowing cat. Now it will barely hit 1000 degrees with TST kit... etc. Truck sounds awesome now. Thinking about putting the 4" system on my dads new 2001 HO Cummins.

I printed out Larry's comments before I installed my Jardine system last weekend. I too had some of the problems he stated.

I took a rat tail file and opened the turbo mounting flange holes outward to make it easier the get the bolts in. I also had to tweek the two clamps near the muffler.

My pipes all fit good and did not give me any trouble. I was able to put the system on by myself with the assistance of a milk crate and a couple 4x4s to hold pipes up.

I did notice the "hiss" Larry talked about, but it seems to be gone with a couple of miles on the system.

I like the system and the way it sounds. It also has shown me a couple of problems I need to address. The transmission rear seal is leaking and the motor spudders when reved. As if I didn't have enough to do already.

Thanks again to everyone who sent the kind words of encouragement to me. .

To the people who got systems from Jardine and had no trouble... to everyone who loves the sound.....

I Thank you all for the support...

I have decided that I will defend Jardine... as their buisness practices were fourthright and HONEST. .

I am now a HAPPY CAMPER...
My truck is now where I've always wanted it to be... .

If anyone wants the specifics... I'd be happy to do PRIVATE E-Mail... .

Feel free to drop me a line... I'll chew off your ear. .

I have info that I would like to share... but a public forum isn't the place to do it. .
