Hi,

my 4" system W/ 3" downpipe came today. . The shipping box says 90-93 without intercooler. . Mine IS intercooled so. . What's the difference?. . So far the only thing I notice is the aftermarket downpipe has a heat shield on it were my orig downpipe does not. and the new downpipe mounts right to the turbo housing without the cast fitting that clamps to the orig downpipe... Also I'm guessing the muffler is directional(?)..... Thanks for any info... ... ... . Chuck

P. S. this truck was made in Mexico:confused:

Hey senor,

I am not sure if there is a dfference. I have a non intercooled 91 and just put on a 4" system similar to what you described.

My downpipe has no shield...

I think some of the intercooled trucks had a wastegated turbo that would put the downpipe closer to the firewall... hence the need for a shield... perhaps that's the difference????

Jay..... enjoying the benefits of a 4" system!!

Chuck,

Where did you order the 4" from? And how much was it? I have a 92 W350 with 3" straight pipe and it has holes everywhere. All the online places with prices seem to only list the 94+ trucks.

Mark,

I got mine from City Muffler & Performance in OK. . The system looks nice. . I'm installing it tomorow... It cost $350 +$25 ship to So Cal... ... . The guy I talked to (Jon) Seemed like a cool guy. .

Looks like the muffler locates back a few inches more than the stock one... .

Here's a stupid question. . Does anyone know if it's alright to weld a hanger to the outside shell of the muffler? I think it's 16 gage(?) could be wrong ... ... ... ... ... Thanks... Chuck

I got my 4" system through a local Allied muffler shop. It is manufactured by IMCO (international muffler company) Mine has the heat shield on the down pipe and the muffler section is farther back than the stock location. My "Made in Mexico" 93 did not have a cast fitting on the stock down pipe.

Chuck,

My muffler is back a few inches also... I will be welding two hangars to the outside shell this weekend.

Hey guys,

just took my truck for a spin with the 4" system. . Dang that sounds cool!. . It gets with it a little better as well. . This system is very well thought out, fits much better than the stock system and feels sturdy with two hangers on the muffler and one extra under the back of the cab... ..... Very pleased!... ...

After looking at my stock system laying on the ground, I'm surprised they let em out of the factory that way, there are some places were it's kinked to 1/2 diameter or less. . Poor old truck couldn't breathe... Looking forward to better milage..... Thanks for the info guys!. . :D
