Is it worth spending the $700 (give or take) on a 4" exhaust system on a stock truck? I plan doing a little bombing in the future... so would it pay off to wait?

Help educate me... thanks in advance, -Ken

My 0. 015$ is to do it for the EGT's now and later. If you like to sound(s) of straight pipes And can handle the "rush" from the turbo spooling - drop the muff and keep it straight. I lost my muff and res from the dealers lot and only could find 3" to replace it. Totally happy!! BUTT will eventually go to all 4" (probably with a stack). You'll probably need to do it later when the "bomb"ing becomes a 'habit', so get it now.
Also, check out the proper way to bomb. You can find it by searching or I think there is the info on the main page (link). Some of those who are further than me will have a different way to go, but we all agree on the lest restrictions. It will keep your EGTS lower with towing too.

Definatley go with the 4" as soon as you can. You will get lower EGT's and quicker Turbo Spool up on a stock motor, plus when you are ready to bomb the exhaust is already done. I have Jannetty Racings kit, i paid $540. 00 for it and it looks and sounds amazing.

Ken, check out www.wwcd2.com . How does $425 to your door sound? #ad

Ken, you might click on the featured article "Air+fuel=Power" on the TDR homepage. I gained only 7 hp @380 hp level going from 3" to 4". EGT was not noticeably different. If you get the HX40 turbo, that is a different story--you should go 4" then. Some like the sound or look of 4" and the low restriction muffler they use along with it probably accounts for most of the improvements they get. So, yes and no--it may be worth it to you, but don't look for a big hp gain.

I'm with Joe... I'd say save your money until you are producing enough HP to 'need' the lower EGT's. Considering you are near stock or under 300hp,you can keep the resonator on and just get rid of the muffler (or remove resonator and mufler and install performance muffler) for better results with the stock 3" pipe.
You asked do you 'need' it now at this power level? No. But if you 'want' the sound and looks of a 4",then that seems reason enough to get one. My opninion.

Ken the only reason you should buy aftermarket exhaust is to replace a rotted out sytem or to change the SOUND of it.
the 4" systems are only worth around 25F off your EGT's thats it. even with some major mods you can get away with the 3" stock system.

ken , all good points , i notice you are in seattle , go to stans , they will do you right and save you shipping . drop the muffler and resonator and decide on the type of sound you want , meet up with the NW BOMBers , ghreat bunch of guys , they have all different kinds of exhausts and you can hear what different setups sound like and decide what you'd like to do .

joe d. 7 hp , may not be much , but it something , and the cost /HP gained is on par with the banks kits ... . ooops ... .
