I'm looking to go to a 4" exhaust soon and am wondering what some of the lower cost options are; the only one I've seen is the Bully Dog on the GP site. If anyone has this system (or others), what is your opinion of it? I don't want junk, but don't need a gold plated system, either. The requirements are that the system has a muffler and exits in the stock location, and I prefer a stock (ie rusty) looking tailpipe. I don't mind doing a little welding if neccesary.

Also, has anyone built their own system? It seems that it would be more trouble than it's worth after buying a muffler and properly routing the pipe over the rear axle.

Thanks,

Pete

pcorssmit,

I have the Jardine which, as shipped to PA was 467. I believe it is made of aluminized steel. My only problem installing was the rear most clamp did not totally line up but I did not consider it to be a big deal. The exhaust exits out the rear same as stock. I did not tack weld my joints and have had no leaks. I have it on since summer and just last week had to loosen it to realign my BD brake. Had no trouble moving the head pipe. It gives off quite a "drone" at 70mph with 4:10 gears. I have had truckers ask me about it and tell me it sounds good. I am satisfied.

I built my own, and it was about $200 with a 4" walker muffler. I too kept the stock tailpipe tip because I liked the looks and it has a kind of sleeper look to it.

Did you buy the bends and pipe, then cut and splice them together? Also, what did you do for the flange to connect to the turbo elbow? Did you simply cut the stock tip off and weld it to the new pipe?

Thanks,

Pete

<font color=blue>Here is what I have found :

  • JRE - $550
  • Bully Dog - $480
  • Jardine - $425
  • Stan's Header - No system listed but different pieces to build own
  • Banks - $800?
  • BD - $550
  • Diesel Dynamics - $550

The a few that I have found. I have the JRE system (which you heard), I also like the sound of the Diesel Dynamics system. The others I can't say anything about their sound. Hope this helps in your quest for exhaust.

<font color=blue>Where did you get that information? I took the price directly from the Group Purchase page, so I assumed it was the most "current"? I will gladly edit my post if you show me the info #ad

OK, looks like I'll be ordering either the Bullydog or the Jardine next week. I've been thinking about how to build my own and decided that I'd rather spend a little more to buy one I know will fit.

Pete,
I have the Jardine system and like it alot. Sound is awesome and all my fellow rammers out here always comment on how nice it sounds. Great Price through wwcd2's group purchase! #ad

pcorssmit,

Don't forget now, you need to set aside half a buck for Geno's monster tip! Icing on the proverbial exhaust pipe!

It may be to late, but I cut a short piece of the stock flange off and welded it to the new pipe. I then used 3-45's and 1-90 to get back to the tailpipe. To finish it off I cut the stock tip off where it flares to 4" and welded it to the new system. It only took about 6-8 hrs for me to build. Sorry if I got back too late.

bholcomb, where did you find 4" stock? I thought 4" pipe was hard to come by.

I checked into doing my own 5" by getting pieces from a local truck shop. It looked like it would run about $150 with a resonator (and no muffler) not counting a downpipe.

Vaughn,

I bought my pipe at the local Fleetpride, which is a big truck parts center. 12' of 4" was around $60-70.

I was mistaken when I posted $200 for the cost. It was actually closer to $250, but I bought too much 4" pipe. I also built a straight pipe and still have four or five feet laying around. I was going to use a resonator, but they were too fat (diameter).

Were you going to run 5" from the right out of the turbo down? That would have to be a tight fit around the firewall.

Brian

Brian... you are correct that the 5 inch from the turbo is a tight fit at the firewall. . When I was making the downpipe. . I did a lil "hammer tuning" to the firewall for clearance. I was a lil worried it would cause a fire... am gonna try to take some pics so I can post them on here. JB

I remember seeing the extension of the $400 Bully Dog price through the end of the year also, but now the price is listed as $480. #ad
The price for the Ford system is also $480, but the price for the Chevy system says it has been extended through the end of the year at $400.

I don't know Pete, someone told me earlier the BullyDog GP was exteneded until the end of the year? But no one has actually confirmed it. I guess my advice is to call them and ask. The Jardine is around $430 tho if BullyDog is too exspensive.

Once you get word on what the actual BullyDog price is please let me know so I can keep my "running list" of exhaust current.

I use to operate a bussiness called Finish Line Racing. I sold mostly Porsche related products. I did sell B&B Tri-Flow Mufflers. I have a dual 4. 5 outlet on my 911. Its stainless steel and sounds really awesome on the track and street.

Anyway, Today Billy Boat, who races in the IRL send me his new product line and price list.

98. 5 - 2001 Cummins QC long bed 895 retail 695. jobber, shortbed QC 895 - 695. Get a load of this one. The down pipe is 395 Retail and 320 jobber.

I am happy with Bills product but that is way too much for a down pipe.

Bullydog sells the 4-inch madrel bent full exhaust system for $430.
To qualify for this price you must be a TDR member and mention the Bullydog's ad in the TDR Nov/Dec/Jan 2000-2001 issue, page 25.
