Forgive my ingnorance... What's the difference between "aluminized" and "stainless"? Since they love dumping tons of salt all over the roads here in the winter, which one is going to rust out slower ?? I see my exhaust system is already looking like a rust farm (and the driveshaft, etc... ). Did I pick rust as an option?? :confused:

I live in Alaska and we have massive winter salt program up here. . my aluminized exhaust does not have a speck of rust on it after 1. 5 years and was half the cost of a stainless system.

Basically the aluminized systems are like galvanized steel and stainless is... well stainless steel. . depending on quality it will rust but not too bad. My Dad's old 92 (my bro has it now) exhaust system finally fell off this year... . 60 bucks and it was good again.

I have had my Jannetty 4" Aluminised kit on my truck for almost 2 years now. Absolutley rust free still and i live in the North East. Diesels dont produce very much condensation so its rare you will rust an exhaust system out. Most exhausts DO rust from the inside out, particuraly in Gassers which have alot of condensation. I have a friend with an aluminised kit on his 96 and it still looks fine after 5 years.

I would much rather spend the difference saved versus stainless on gauges or some other more practical item for my truck.

I have a Dynomax System by Walker,Its aluminized and no rust probs here. Its a cat back system,then I bought a 4" aluminized straight pipe up to the turbo,works great and sounds good... ..... Rick

Oh BTW Walker number is 19335

Bob, no I have not painted the truck. I don't have all the body work done yet and then the big problem will be money. A full paint job is not going to be cheap. :{

check with Rip

Rip mentioned the other day that the Ford 4" downpipe may work with a little modification

which Rip was thinking about doing

I just put a 4" on my 2000 QC SB 4X4. A friend owns a custom exhaust shop and he ordered this kit from his supplier. It is a Flo-Pro I had not heard of it before, but it seems pretty nice. He had to make all the hangers though. 4" aluminized, and fully mandrel bent. He said I got it for his cost, which I paid $313. 00 installed. It needs a 5" tip though

EMDDiesel, my JRE came with a piece of 4" just long enough to eliminate the muffler. The only thing that I had to do was buy a stainless band clamp from the nearby heavy truck parts place. I can't believe I ran my truck for so long with the Walker muffler. It sounds fantastic now.

Jardine!

I just got finished installing my second Jardine 4" system and I love it. The only problem I have had on both is that the shipping tends to slightly bend the ends of the pipe causing the joints to be difficult. I solved this on my second install by using a three inch to four inch reducer I had laying around as a cone and hammering it against the expanded ends to help round them out again. I bought both my systems from Jardine and I saved money by ordering just the turbo down pipe, tailpipe and stainless tip from them and procuring the straight piece of aluminized pipe here at my local muffler shop. I built all my own hangers using pieces of 1/4 inch cold roll and some imagination. It turned out awesome and I even painted all the welds and hangers with high heat silver t match! Total investment including tip: $280. 00!! Not too bad!

Your local Napa can order 10 ft joints of alluminized exhaust pipe! If you don't have one, any muffler shop that carries walker exhaust products can. Hope this helps!
