Well recently when I installed a 4" downpipe to cooperate with my Hx40 turbo, I have a vibration where the downpipe touches the right frame rail.

The exhaust only vibrates against the rail while in drive and the truck is braked and has come to a complete stop.

I am wondering about shifting the exhaust towards the driveline but I fear vibration from that side of the unit.

There is only 1/3" on either side to work with.

Any hints or suggestions are appreciated.

Take the pipe off and dent it a little with a hammer. :D

Actually, you should be able to tweak it over to one side... If that doesn't work, get out the BFH (big f***in' hammer).

BOMB ON.

I had the same problem...

until I loosened the two bolts holding the clamp to the turbo and wiggled the down pipe away from the frame. I placed a couple of wood shims between the pipe and the frame, then I just retightened the bolts starting with the one closest to the engine first, tightening them equally as I went. When the bolts were tight, I just removed the shims.

Jim,

I have tried that method already, using a wrench to shim the exhaust to one side, then re-tightening the exhaust clamp and down-pipe exhaust connection under the truck.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

You shouldn't have a problem with a 4" down pipe hitting the frame. I would return it or find out why it is hitting the frame. I have a 5" down pipe and it doesn't hit anything. Something is not right.

I concur with the opinions stated. You shouldn't have a problem with that downpipe. You should have at least a third of an inch, maybe up to half an inch when installed properly. Taking all that into consideration, you may want to contact the manufacturer and tell them the problem you are having. There should be no contact with the frame. If all else fails, get the hammer out as Evan suggested and get to wailing on that pipe.
