Those of you who have gone the 4" route have you noticed much help in the EGT department? I am curious because the 3" restriction at the turbo is still there. I am running straight piped now and wonder how much the EGT will drop if I go 4" .

TIA

Question for Don ?

Hi Don,

Quick question.

What are you referring to when you say in your signature "a throttle stop was built"... ??

Something on the plate, the throttle linkage, under the pedal...

Sounds like a good idea.

John,

In my opinion, waste your money on something else. Along my rocky road of performance increases, I've made a lot of mistakes and have been fooled by the marketing propaganda a little too often.

I saw zero gains on my truck. I've had a 4" exhaust exiting in front of the rear tire and my current jardine system. That's $550 that I wish I could have back.

Deezul 1:

When I installed my 4" exhaust system my EGTS's

dropped almost 100 degrees under HARD

acceleration. However, some of this may have

been due to the "cat" coming off at the same

time. My "cat" was plugged REAL bad! The HX-40

has helped the EGT's even more.

Probably all due to your cat. I had a plugged cat too, replace it and the muffler with 3" straight pipe. Saw the same decrease.

I dont have a 4" exaust, but I did call TST last week and they told me that the 3" exaust with a streight through muffler could handle over 450hp. They also told me that they put a truck on a dyno with one of their pm3 boxes with 3" ex then put on a 4"ex and the egts actualy came up. I said WHAT,you got to be kidding! Then he started explaining how backpressure effects the turbo.

I dunno

Call them and ask some questions, they are nice to talk to.

Ben,

Anything over 478HP seems to slip the clutch on my truck. The injectors I built took the truck past that number and the clutch would slip badly. I fashioned a small throttle stop in the linkage to help me control the travel a bit to keep the clutch in it until I upgrade to a clutch that will hold more power with my heavy truck (8775lbs)

The Con O is great clutch and will hold down a ton of HP but the mid to high end on my truck is slipping it.

For an organic clutch, it is top notch and held more power than Peter thought it might. At 450HP it holds like crazyglue.

Even with the traction of dual wheels and weight in the bed.

That is the truth, MUCH better sound than a 3" straight pipe.

Lower EGT's

I went from a straight 3" to a straight Jardine 4" and it lowered the EGT's some for sure. I also like the sound a lot more. Sounds more like a big rig and is not so harsh it seems.

At the 380 hp level, gong from 3" with Walker 21468 to 4" with no muffler, gain of 7 hp and basically the same egt--high, with the HX35 and 16 or 18. 5 housing.

Over about 350 hp, the HX40 is needed to keep egt down, and it takes 4", so that is about where one should go to 4".

I don't know yet where full 5" exhaust is needed. The HX55 is set up for 5" although I used 4" to get the 609 hp last year. We will see if 5" all the way from the turbo back helps any

If noise is any indication

Towing my trailer with about the power level you have now John, I only saw about a 50-75 deg reduction in EGTs. But is sounds really cool!!!:D :D  :D :D

I added a 4 inch system with no change in EGT. I later went to the ATS manifold and saw about 100 degree drop. With my new Piers turbo, another 100 degrees. I almost never look at my pyro now since I can't push temps past 1100 or with full on throttle.
