hey turbo lcc -

Do you have the Summit 4" system or know someone who does? If so, what muffler does it include, if any? Also, do you know what gauge it is and whether it is mandrel bent and aluminized? Does it have a decent hanger system?

This is all I could find on the Summit $299 4" system - no pics or additional description:

SUM-680001 Exhaust system, Turbo Back, 4" Dia, Single Tip, Dodge Pick Up Diesel 1999-2002 $299. 95

Thanks!

Steve

zman,

Yes I am running it. I love it. It is from the turbo back, installs in about an hour. Sounds awesome (much quieter than the 3in straight pipe I had before). I would definitely recommend it. . Did I mention it is cheap!!!! less than $325 shipped. .

Yes the hangers reuse the stock hangers.

Yes it is manderal bent

I think it is 16gauge.

summit exhaust

they put alot of axle space in the summit package don't they. there muffler is a welded together item. but for $269. 00 plus shipping,,, what would the interior of the muffler be like????? a cheese grader?? or, just perforated metal, a baffle? in the middle?

just my penny"s worth.

The Summit packages sounds like a fairly good deal. Any idea who the muffler manufacturer is? Is there any identifying info stamped on the muffler, like a part number? Thanks again!

A guy at summit told me that is was a walker muffler. . but there was no markings on the muffler. I can tell you it is basically straight thur.

turbo-

what is basically? straight though? is it rough inside? or perforated? if its like a cheese grader, don't get it. causes back pressure.

Mlee,

Basically straight though = you can put you arm though the muffler. . yes the are baffles, (if I remember right) about 1/4 to 1/2 tall. There may be a little restriction but I doubt it is enough to notice.

Hope this helps. .

you can call summit too 800 230 3030 :D

Can you explain this "cheese grater" thing? The muffler Bully Dog supplies (AutoJet brand I believe they told me) has a bunch cheese grater looking like dimps on the inner surface. Bully Dog refers to these as "cusps". The muffler is still a 4" straight thru design. Do I have a "bad" type of muffler?? Should I ditch the Bully Dog muffler and get the Allied muffler from Rip?

a glass pack muffler that was installed on a gas powered car had this type of interior. it caused almost as much back pressure as the stoke muffler. it just sounded better and you thought you went faster.

a cheese grader is what is used to shread the cheese you have put on your taco.

info on the "Big Exhaust"

The "Big Exhaust" that lschultz mentioned above doesn't look too bad, but I'm curious of the muffler and the gauge of tubing. It might be worth picking up the down pipe and the tail pipe and adding a known muffler and some 4" pipe. The tail pipe appears to have an odd bend to it just before it exits - or is it just the angle of the picture??

Here's some info on this system:

Dodge Exhaust

4" Aluminized System

O. E. Fit.

Mandrel Bent Tubing

Aluminized Pipe

DF400MRP-dod - 94-01 Cummins Muffler Replacement Pipe - $45. 40

DOD400TPM - 94-01 Cummins 4" Tail Pipe - $63. 03

Dd Combo Kit - 94-01 Cummins 4" System w/Muffler - $325. 16

I sent them an email asking about the tubing gauge and the muffler.

aaahhhhh!!!!!!

There is a reason why those other exhaust systems are cheap. I paid 38 and some odd thousands for my truck... no sense, to me anyway, to skimp on the exhaust. After all I'm going to have it for a long time. Im betting since Summit told you it was a Walker muffler on their kit that it is actually a Dynomax Bullet. Which is basically an aluminized glass pack that sells for $35. 95 the part number is WLK-24217 notice the prefix WLK wonder if that stands for walker????? :) Also look at the picture of their exhaust in the front of the Nov-Dec catalog. The area where it bolt to the turbo outlet looks s****y it looks like they used a peice of 3" and just welded the hell out of it, check out the photo and please love your truck.
