Is it worth the money to go with a 4" Exhuast system and if so what is a good one to buy for a man thatis BROKE?

For broke, if you want to run without a muffler, just replace it with a piece of pipe. Can do the same with (if you have it) the cat or resonator.

You can also get a straight through muffler if you want to keep it queiter and help it breath a little better. .

Edit: Would help to read your sig. Supposedly, stock exhaust (straight-thru) is good to about 350hp. Would depend on if you "want" it more than anything else.

The 4" system does little for your performance until you get close to 500hp. It will help a small amount with EGT but is not a cost effective mod at lower HP levels. Go straight pipe and that will be a lot better deal for the money. My local muffler shop did mine for $50. I am running over 400hp with the stock size pipe and havnt seen the need for larger until I go to a HX 40 turbo.

Little-E,

The differences I noticed after installing 4" exhaust were lower EGTs, quicker turbo spool, and of course, the awesome sound.

However, similar results can be gained by removing the stock muffler... by your sig, it looks like you already have.

By the way, I have two complete OEM exhaust systems that came off of 2001. 5 CTDs if anyone is interested.

Dpp makes excellent exhaust systems. It is a no brainer to install and they just happen to be in Nashville:) . Go see Mark and he will hook you up. http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com/dodge.html#

We do have a MID-TN chapter of TDR. Our next get together is March 20th in M'boro for DYNO DAY!!! We have 12 trucks seeing what they got. Half will probably be over 450HP. Look for our threads in local chapters. Come out and you can see and hear many different exhaust systems.

I too just bought a 4" Jardine for $300 (see the ad in issue 41 I think of the TDR magazine for Pinnacle Perfomance up in Dubois, WY). My goal was to lower the EGTs for towing, which I can't verify as I don't have my gauges yet (next purchase as soon as I get my annual bonus check next month). Turbo seems to spin up faster. Didn't notice any change in mileage or power.

Is that Jardine price turbo back? Is there much difference in sound between brands? How do I keep from getting that drone everyone talks about? Have a stock exhaust for now, going to 4" soon, probably Jardines if that price is turbo back.

I've got the Banks Monster muffler. It's not exactly cheap but there is ablolutly no drone. Frankly, it sounds just like stock from the cab.
