Well... Drove to work this morning and the trip went well, didn't notice anything unusual until I opened the truck door at the office... Fuel was literally pouring from under the hood. . Engine was still running (shut down timer) so I reached over and flipped the "KILL IT NOW" switch, which at this point I am extremely glad I installed when I put the turbo cool down unit in. .

Cracked the hood and had a buddy bump the motor over for me. . Fuel just sprays out of the #4 fuel line where it screws onto the injector feed. .

Called local Cummins guy. . OVER 4000 back ordered from Cummins. . Called Dodge Dealership. . NONE in the USA available. .

Cummins Guy was able to put in a rush order for one on a "Unit-Down" ticket but I am still looking at a week of down time. . #@$%!

elkhart in. . . st. joseph mo. . .

there are 2 dealers in these 2 towns that have a # 4 inj. feed line in stock. I dont know the dealer names but google works well here.

If they are on national back order I will have to clean up over 500 lines that came with the rails we have for cores and put on Ebay,I think thier has to be one or two #4s in the box.

Why the shortage for a common item?
Hope i get mine paid off before it has to be parked out in the field due to lack of parts:(

I read that the #4 line can be a problem on our trucks. One post suggested that the insulator cushion was bad.

Does anyone have a preventive measure that might keep this from happening?

What do we watch for to keep from being stranded?

Dan

Lots of common parts have been on back order since the bankruptcy and the two month shut down. When the assembly plants went down, most of the suppliers went down as well, and the cars just kept breaking down at the same rate. The Cummins plant and the Chrysler assembly plants were back up for a week or so and then all the Chrysler plants went back down two weeks ago for a mandatory two week shutdown. So there are still going to be shortages on parts until all the plants and suppliers are back up and running full time again.

I think that the blue clamps just work loose and then the line shakes til it splits or cracks. The #4 lines do it the most, maybe that certain spot of the motor has a lil more vibration or shake to it?? I would just check the blue clamps every now and then to keep em tight.

The weird thing about this whole deal is that I did not notice ANY difference in performance. . It was stop and go traffic and I was being pretty light footed, but I dumped at least half a tank of diesel under the hood at full operating temps before I got to the office. . Glad it didnt go up in flames. .

Have to remember that diesel is "combustible", not "flammable". Still under the right conditions I'm sure it could ignite. I've seen exhaust manifolds getting soaked with diesel and no problems.

Well I had been checking the clamp on #4 to make sure it was tight on a regular basis but it got me yesterday. Truck came to a dead halt in the midlle of a 3 line 50mph road. #4 cracked open and killed the engine. Really fun to steer over and slow down with no power to say the least. Get a tow to my local dealership and I get the same story. Parts on national backorder and NO idea when they can get a line. Great its covered under warrenty but my truck now sits in the dealers back lot for who knows how long all the while I have no truck. Oh well maybe with all these clunker sales they will make enough dough to start puttin people back to work and make parts for us suckers that already own there product. Thanks for puttin up with my rant I feel much better now.

This same thing happened to one of the guys I work with on Monday. He called Dodge and same story about "national backorder". I Told him to call one of the three local Cummins shops around our shop. He got one the same day... I think it cost him about $35. 00.

Your chances of it actually catching on fire aren't as good as if it were gasoline!!!!

Yea i got on the horn with Cummins West in Reno,NV and they have 200 on backorder also. They were expecting them last month but that order has been delayed. Even called Cummins in Sacramento same story. I'm SOL till they get here one way or another.

We'll as I mention in my earlier post, if the situation arises that you need the #___ lines if not available contact Me.

Thanks I am going to give them a little time as it is already at the dealer under warrenty and they are workin with Cummins west in Reno so who ever gets them in first they will get to the dealer. If I buy the part used I would have to get a dead truck off there lot to fix it.
