I got a new enclosed car trailer and WOW is it heavy. With the jeep fully loaded its over 12,000 lbs. Well with all the bombs I've done to the truck Its hard to get started off the line towing this thing. The power comes on so fast that the truck starts to spin the rear tires. I talked to a friend with another dodge and he has even more power than mine and he has a 40 ft toy box loaded to the gills. He says that he has to start in 4hi and once he is rolling he goes back to 2wd. So yesterday I tried it and it works great. I will do this from now on. Just woundering if anyone else does this.

I can't say I've ever played with the toyboxes but with stock trailers or flatbed goosnecks I've got plenty of weight on the rears to make them hook up. If you're loaded in the 4-5k range on the rear axle and your still slipping you're asking to break something.

As long as you are going in a straight line it would be fine. If you do that in a turn, something could easily break. I would also make sure that I had same tires on all four corners. When I bought my truck it had different brand tires on the front than the back, it caused terrible bind.

The other thing I will check is how much preload was on the load levelers. I my have had too much on and lightened the rear of the truck.

Hey Rockjeep,

You talking about on-road only ? Off-road , I"ve been threre too ! Maybe for a differant reason though. I know that a tranfer case can cook itself without any added wheight(load) to a vehicle in a high stess run. Last time this happened was a few miles deep in the woods on a trail with hills and had to tow a friend out. Trails were good enough for maybe 25 or 35 mph ,BUT NOT IN 4WD, I don't have any official data except that I could not touch the t-case for any longer than a split secound(way hotter than McDonalds coffee). Also Off Raod magazine just had an article on that problem also and some runs they were able to peak over 400 f. ,before a cooler was added. Sorry for answering a question without a response, its that a believe this info to be of some use to other members a least !
