Amsoiled...finally!

Hey Fellas,

I Finally decided which clutch and injectors I want... Now I'm trying to iron out my exhaust questions. I'm thinking about going with the JRE 4" (because it's 14GA). What about a 4in downpipe? I saw one on the Banks site (it's probably made of gold). Would it make a noticeable difference? Are downpipes expensive?

Also, I'm running an EZ with stock injectors right now, and I'm seeing more smoke than I want to. I'm at about 4000 ft elevation and summers here get HOT. Usually 100 to 115 degrees for at least 2 months.

I would really like to minimize smoke, but quicker spoolup and lower egts are nice too.

Would the 4in exh add or take away from my low and mid range power? Would I see a noticeable reduction in smoke (before injectors)?

I thought I knew the answers, but I read an old post about a guy who installed the 4in exhaust and he LOST power. He couldn't build as much boost and lost low end power. He figured that at his altitude (5000ft)and he needed more back pressure.

Opinions and experiences are appreciated. Thanks!

Most 4" quality system already come with a 4" downpipe. HP gain from exhaust system are minimal if any. I don't think you'll loose power but I'm not familiar with altitude so maybe a nose bleeder;) will pipe up. High flow air filter would help also.

I heard somewhere that on turbocharged vehicles you want as little backpressure as possible after the turbo. The turbo provides all the pressure the engine will need, and the less pressure after the turbo the better. Complete free-flow will give better spool-up and lower EGT's, but minimal HP gains( i. e. 7-10hp) if any. The only smoke-loss I would imagine is from the quicker spool times. Otherwise it doesn't change that much, but then again I am only about 500ft above sea-level:D

Ask Ted (JRE) if he can include a 4" downpipe with the system instead of the standard downpipe. Since he sells the HX40 turbo I am sure he has a downpipe for his exhaust.
