I am considering buying a 4 in. 304 ss exhaust system from Diesel Pro. They have an ad in the TDR for a turbo back system for my 94 2500 for $575. I am just wondering if anyone has bought their system or anything else from them and what their experience was like. Thanks, Doug

Doug,

I don't have experience with that vendor, but I looked at their website. Its good that they sell the SS band clamps with the system and it comes with the SS tip. What I would think about is the clamps have the exhaust hanger rods welded on. I got a similiar system but from MBRP that is T409 SS and the exhaust rods were welded on to the pipes in the correct location for the existing stock hangers. I didn't have to deal with the clamp/hanger location... the rods fit perfectly in the existing hanger rubber. And the system came in just 3 pieces plus the muffler and the tip.

I also needed a new rear hanger for my 97 and you may verify that to. My old hanger was not used and replaced with the 98. 5 and up style tailpipe hanger.

You can get the 4 inch T409 SS MBRP system from xtremediesel.com for $439 and shipping is FREE!. The tip is extra at about $60 and I got the 3 T304 SS band clamps from NAPA for $10 apiece.

The MBRP fit and function was very good and easy to install IMHO since the rods were welded to the exhaust. The rods fit in on the existing hangers with the exception of the tailpipe rear hanger which I purchased for $28. The high flow muffler was 31 inches and wasn't to loud for a straight thru muffler. I was very pleased with the system.

The 4 inch single exhaust MBRP system from xtremediesel link: http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=414

..... The T304 SS tip I got from them: http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=58

... . and the tailpipe exhaust hanger from diesel performance parts:

I don't know if you've settled on buying that system, but thought I'd let you know about the one I bought. I searched a long time before I bought MBRP. The thing I like about the Diesel Pro system your loking at is that it is apparently a true 4 in downpipe that bolts directly to the turbo. The MBRP downpipe has a 3 in adapter (about 5 inches in lenght) welded on the end to mate with the HX35 turbo downpipe elbow. Don't know what length the muffler was but IMHO with at least a 28-30 inch it would be quieter.

The SS band clamps are the way to go, if you ever want to remove the system again. Worst part of the job was removing the old exhaust. Best to use a sawzall, but I didn't have one and struggled with a hacksaw :{ .

Hope that helps. I know you weren't asking for advice on another system but I thought you might benefit from my experience. BTW that looks like a great price for T304 SS with a tip and with a true 4 inch downpipe.

Good Luck,

Dave

Thanks Dave, I was thinking that it might be an advantage to have the hangers mounted on clamps so that if things don't quite line up, you could just slide the clamp one way or the other. I think your right about using band clamps to hold the system together. The price is what concerns me. Seems to good to be true for 304 plus no shipping fee or tax. Everyone else is charging well over $600. They said their 304

is 16 gauge, and that's what everyone else is using too, from the checking I've done so far. Don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but, don't want to be taken for a ride either. I'm going to spend a little more time looking into this. Thanks again Dave, Doug

I know it seems with the rods on the clamps it would be easier to adjust (and I don't have experience with that) but I read I post recently where someone had that kind of setup and had a horrible time getting all the pieces together. That system your getting has quite a few more pieces then MBRP. Just something to think about. I'll try to find that post for you.

I agree Diesel Pro sounds real cheap for T304... Shoot, it would be cheap for T409 considering it comes with band clamps and a tip which usually are extra... and did you say free shipping too... Geeez!

Another system you might look at is www.summitracing.com. They had a similar system to Diesel Pro that was $499 (back in Jan) with band clamps and same clamp hangers but I don't remember if the tip or shipping included. It was made by Borla for Summit so its a summit PN. They could not tell me the length of the muffler so I passed on it.

I was interested more in being sure the muffler was quiet and from posts I read more were happy with MBRP in that regard IMHO. To be honest, some didn't like the drone that happens at 1800-2200 RPM, but it was not bad to me or my wife. . kinda sounds cool. Any straight thru muffler will probably give the drone (depending on mods) from what I read, again IMHO. Regarding the Summit exhaust I remember it being almost identical to the Diesel Pro your looking at. I have heard a quiet muffler should be at least 28 inches or above in length... just my opinion again.

Hope that helps,

Dave

Looking for 4" stainless steel band clamps? RockAuto.com has them

CLAMP at a really good price.

cul,

Casey

Casey,

Thats a good price on the SS band clamp for $6. 73  . The Napa clamp I got was an "Easy Seal" flat strap brand also just like that Walker clamp at Rock Auto. Looks identical and cheaper than NAPA :D .

Edit: On the other hand... the Rock Auto ground Shipping price is $9. 95 so if you need 3 that would be $3. 33 apiece more bringing the total to around $10 apiece unless, of course, you were ordering something else with it. But don't forget to add tax at NAPA, so... . figure it out first to see if Rock Auto is cheaper... at least they are available there if you need them. Check with whoever you order from and they may have them and save you shipping. Got to figure all the angles here... He. . He. . He :-laf

One more thing: RPM outlet has the magnaflow T-409 turbo back with a 10% discount if you enter 1212 coupon code when ordering. The magnaflow comes with a 5" tip and free shipping. Check it out HERE Total out the door should be around $365 give or take a few dollars. Not a bad deal, add in the above ss clamps from rockauto and you have a pretty good package.

Just my . 02

Casey

PS Just hit enter after entering the 1212 coupon code. There is no button to click on.

PPS I do not work there or have any connection to RPM outlet, just passing on info.

That system looks very similar to my MBRP system and the tip is cheaper (1/2 cost of MBRP) and they offer an 18 in tip... WOW! I like the big tip (mine is 12 inch) because it keeps the soot off the fenders and it is BIG and looks  . Everything I seen mentioned 98. 5 and up, which tells me you need the new rear hanger to make it work. . Keep that in mind ;) . Not sure if the true 4 inch downpipe is available for 94 or not... check it out.

You got lotsa good choices now..... Decisions... Decisions... . Decisions :-laf !

Good Luck... . Let us know what you pick and how you like it :D .

Dave

Dbohl,

Sorry, in my haste to get out info, I initially didn't comprehend the part about you having a '94, glad Dave is in this thread. You could always add a rear hanger like Dave stated to make it work.

Gud luk in your search,

Casey

You might check the size of the mufflers on these systems. The Diesel Pro and Magnaflow did not mention the muffler size. I believe the Magnalow is 30" or 31" from my previous searchs but not sure of the Diesel Pro muffler. Thats one place where they can skimp on the price. The muffler makes the system IMHO.

Hey guys, I called Diesel Pro and they offer a choice of mufflers, a 6 in. straight thru or an 8in. redirect (slightly baffled) for the same price. The muffler is 32-34 inches long depending on the truck style. Samething with the tip, choice of 5. 5 or 6 inch both are 24 inches long, which I think would give a more finished look. System has a lifetime warranty to orig. owner against rust or fac. defects and is made of 16 gauge 304 All and all it sounds like a pretty good system. I am going to give it some more thought. Thanks for all the advice. Doug

Doug,

Hard to beat that price for T304 SS. The magnaflow and MBRP discussed earlier were T409. A 24 inch 6 inch tip would look really  ! The muffler from MBRP is slightly baffled and helps with sound so, I'd suggest the 8 inch redirect. My MBRP is 4 inch thru the center and 6 inch on outside with the baffels inside and they work great. Sounds like what they call straight thru must have no baffles and would probably be louder... . your choice. I believe all the systems discussed are 16 gage. Very few make a 14 gage and stock is stainless (cheap T409) and 16 gage. Only thing I didn't like about Diesel Pro is the clamps with rods on them. I hate clamping the pipes cause it crushes it and dimples the pipe making it diffucult to remove :{ , especially if at a joint.

Good luck and let us know what you get Oo. . Take pics if you can ;) .
