4 inch downpipe????

Is it the cast iron elbow that they are talking about or the down pipe after that? I didn't realize that's what they were talking about. So you can swap out the 3. 5 inch cast iron and replace it with a 4" cast iron elbow and get a new down pipe from there... so it will be a true 4 inch from the turbo back?

I replaced my entire exhaust, including the 3. 5" elbow with the Banks Monster Exhaust. The downpipe mounts directly to the turbo.



I did not notice any performance increase or decrease, just a fuel mileage drop because I like to hear the exhaust :-laf



Without a box I was never able to sustain over about 950 degrees with the new exhaust. But I haven't towed anything heavy, either.

SRadke, according to your sig I have same set up on my 03 less the injectors and turbo. If you were to turbo again would you still do the Killer B2 or ?

Any likes or dislikes? how well is spool

I have an 03' & I was thinking about getting the 4" elbow setup from Dodge as is discussed in this thread... but then I read the following, while shopping for exhaust sytems:

The real world gain on the dyno at the REAR WHEELS is 18HP and a whopping 30 ft lbs of torque.

The 4" exhaust makes your turbo really sing and spool up faster, lowers your egt's(exhaust gas temperature) by up to 250 degrees, improves fuel economy (1-2 MPG Gain), and gains 4lbs of boost.

So the way I read this, if you leave the 3 1/2" elbow on, your turbo will spool up faster. Thoughts???

got my elbow, downpipe and clamp in wednesday(thanks tommygun). installed all of that and a nelson 51 inch muffler friday. install was really simple. sound wise the truck has a slighly deeper tone if your standing at the tip but i can't tell much of a difference if any inside of the cab which is what i was after. have not towed with it yet. this is an easy install. i would suggest removing your inner fender liner to get at the elbow clamps. the stock four inch tailpipe will slide into the muffler, i welded the downpipe to the 4 inch straight pipe going to the muff but you could use a coupler and clamp it. the 4 inch pipe will slide into the muffler inlet. everthing lines up fine with no offsets. you will need a welder to fab up the muffler hangers. i actually removed the transmission crossmember (six speed) and took the whole system off in one piece to finish the welding on the ground. bhaf shoud be in this week.

Facing the obvious lack of documented proof as to incremental power gains, benefits vs liabilities of 4 inch systems with or without the upgraded 4 inch turbo elbow, I personally suspect added benefits of the 4 inch outlet over a 3. 5 inch is just that, "incremental" - or slight down at the +- 400 HP power levels.



When upgrading my OEM system on my '02, I had reservations about the whole outlet and downpipe being the smaller 3. 5 diameter - and instead went to a full 4 inch setup from the turbo elbow to the tailpipe outlet. Would I have received improved performance if I had also installed a 4 inch HX-35 outlet elbow as well? Perhaps - but even with the "weakest link" theory in mind, I still suspect the added potential improvement would have been miniscule overall - and *MIGHT* possibly have other minor tradoffs in performance across the RPM band that outweighed the gains at the power level I am running on my truck.



And until someone steps up with dyno or similar documentation that proves otherwise, that's my opinion, and I'm stuck with it!

Ok, Here is the ????? I have an 03 auto HO and I am pulling 10,000 lbs 40 Ft Featherlite Race G-neck trailer. I am still stock, but have an edge in the tool box but no gauges yet. Only other mod is Amsoil filter in stock box. I would like to be able to add EDGE EZ to tow when I get guages, but prob will need exhaust. My delima is the wife and kids. . and mee too, like the quiet at cruise speeds and do not want a loud drone exhaust to listen to for hours on end... . Gary, how is your system and what brand of mufflers and Part #'s ????



LowellR, Need to know how your set up works when pulling as we are very similar in towing loads...

Mine is a setup done by Rip Rook in the Portland Or. area - it is a 4 inch aluminized steel setup from turbo elbow to tailpipe - and uses a 14 inch long straight-thru muffler ahead of a similar 24 inch long muffler about 3 feet further on down the line - check this pointer for pics and further info:

i would get the guages and then hook up the edge. i didn't have any problems towing with the edge on level 3??? with stock air cleaner and exhaust, (whatever one step down from the hightest level is) but louisiana is flat. i did exhaust/bhaf mods on my last two trucks. i just feel the stock air filter and exhaust is too restrictive. i was going to race next week but something has come up. it will be about three weeks before i tow again.

So, does someone have part numbers for the 2 different elbows? I thought the elbows were different, also, until I looked at a co-workers 04. 5. The numbers cast into his elbow, and mine, were the same.
