The 4" systems sound better but until you get close to 500hp the 4" setup wont gain you much at all. This has been proven by several members on the dyno. A flow through muffler or straight pipe will do all you need to do.

I agree with what deezul1 said. However, the lowering of the EGTs is well worth it. I'm not making 500hp, and I'm glad I got the 4".

Big A

I was under the impression that the 4" was beneficial, as compred to a stock exhaust with free flowing muffler, above 350HP.

4" exhaust was the very first bomb I did. Spools faster and runs cooler.

I never intended the exhaust to play a role in my power levels, rather the security in being able to use the power I wanted to make. If you are always worrying about your EGTs while towing, then the 4" exhaust is more then worth it.

I would do it again (in the same order none the less, exhaust, intake, then power).

Yep... what he said. "If" down the road you go bigger on the injectors... your gonna want to have the 4"... a set of guages to monitor... and don't forget the TC/VB will need some work.

I don't see how backpressure on a turbo diesel can be of any good, so a 4"or bigger exhaust can't do anything but help. At the lower power levels you may not see any gain in performance, but it will help with exhaust temps and help the turbo spool faster.

CWarner:

My truck is setup similar to yours with an ez and 275's. Several months ago I put on a 4" exhaust. The only reason I put it on was to help with egts on the long climbs I have here in the mountains. After putting it on I did not notice any performance gain nor any increase in mpg. I was not really expecting any either. I definitely noticed that the egts ran cooler and that it cools down quicker. Also it is a bit louder in the cab but a different tone for sure.
