2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 4 inch exhaust questions

I just perchased 4 inch exhaust and i need to know if i need to run the muffler or if i would benifit more if i ran it straight, and are there any problems that might occure if i run it straight???

Run it wide open. It sounds much better. There are no bad side effects to running straight. Enjoy!

What about drone? I'd think that would be a bad side effect.

I don't have much drone at all with mine. And it's not bad in the cab either.

Depending on the system you got and the muffler included it won't make any difference in EGT drop or HP gains with or without a muffler. Unless the muffler is one of the hollow can muffler without any packing materials in it, then you will get a slight increase in EGTs and a little less HP too as it will create a little backpressure in the inner and outer cans of the non packed muffler.

I put a Rip's 4" system on mine with the muffler. I didn't want to deal with drone, so I installed the muffler in the location Rip recommends, and the results are great. It's just as loud as the first gens I had with straight pipes. There is no drone and the turbo sounds great. When I want quiet, I roll up the windows and it's quiet. The muffler is a straight-through type, so I don't think it does much besides cut the drone, which is all I wanted.

I agree, I like loud. Drives my boss crazy though, when I fire it up. My family knows I'm coming home from a half mile away. Can't sneak in. About the only time I need quiet is when I need to use the cel phone, so I roll up the windows and turn on the AC.

straight pipe the truck! your ears will thank you everytime that turbo sings to ya! plus, you'll notice everytime you go under a bridge or just have the window down you'll get one of these on your face :-laf

I agree with the straight pipe. When I first put my stacks on I left the 3" down pipe and resonator on and got real nasty resanense ( or how ever its spelled. ). Took off the 3" and resonator put on 4" straight and sounds great with no resanense.
