Hello everyone this is my first post so please bear with me. I purchased a 2000 Ram 3500 about 6 months ago and it has a 4 inch exhaust at least i think it does. What I mean is from the end of the exhaust through two cylinders (don't know exactly what the cylinders do)it's 4 inches then it goes to 3. 5 inches from the last cylinder to the exhaust manifold. Is this a 4 inch exhaust or what? Let me say thanks for any help up front and I think this web is great !!!!

Welcome aboard. I hate to dissapoint you but I think you have the factory exhaust. From the engine side the first thing is the resonator and the next one is the muffler. A true 4" exhaust would be 4" all the way and not go down to 3 1/2. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

Actually, it sounds like you have a "cat-back" 4" exhaust system. I put the words cat-back in quotations because the 24 valve trucks do not have cat converters like the older 12 valve engines did, but a cat-back exhaust will still fit the 24 valve coming off the resonator.

Went with the Jardine system myself. It is great, I can't even get close to 1200*F on the egt guage. I don't think I feel any HP gains but I picked up at least 150*F drop in temps and faster spool up. Also I averaged 15. 8 mpg on a 500 mile trip this week. that is a 2. 3 mpg increase over stock exhaust. I don't drive it very easy either. Went 240 miles in under three hours... ... ... Do the math. I was haulin ***... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

777 Mechanic,

How much lower are your EGT's with the 4" system? I am planning on adding the JRE 4" exhaust and was wondering what kind of drop in EGT's to expect. Also, did the kit require any welding?

Thanks,

Earnie. The system dropped the EGT's about 100-150 degrees. When you do get the higher temps it drops off quite a bit faster after you get off the hammer.

The system does require some welding on the hangers that are furnished with the kit. The hangers hang right on the existing mount spots on the frame. The kit does have one big hanger allready welded onto the straight pipe, and it comes with a welded double hanger that is welded onto a clamp that hooks right up to the existing hanger mount. These are enough to hold the system in place until I got the thing welded up. Cost me $20 at a muffler shop. I did tie the back end of the pipe up. It was banging on the frame, until it was welded.

One other thing. You might have to cut one of the straight pipes to adjust your length of the system. I have a SWB, so I had to cut about 18 inches. Yours is a LWB, you might not have to cut it at all. :)
