4 inch Vs. 5 inch Exhaust

Does a 5 inch exhaust cool down our HOT 3rd gens. anymore than a 4 inch does? Is a 4 inch system gonna hurt anything coming off of "TWINS" w/ a 5 inch downpipe, or are you better off to go w/ the 5 inch exhaust for lower EGT's? Aslo, does anyone make a dual 5 inch (NOT STACKS), all I have seen is dual 4 inch?

I believe that you are only going to see a difference with the 5" exhaust when you get in to the higher hp (500+). I also read that it may cause you to lose some low end tq if you don't have the hp to back it up. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

Blake, if you are planning twins with a 5" downpipe, you might as well make the rest 5". Necking it down might not hurt anything, but I wouldn't do it. With what you have already I don't know that 5" will help enough to make installing it worth the price.

I have the Banks full 5" system on my CTD which set me back 600 bucks. Great system and well worth the cost. My truck is more responsive than before with better mileage as well. But, a little louder than I would have liked, but it doesn't really bother me at all.

Bought my 5 inch from city muffler and performance for 375. 00SHIPPED... I also bought a 5 inch flo off of ebay... . no loss of power just cooler egts than my stock straight pipe... . Truck sounds bad to the bone but not to loud...

The question is will the 5" gain anything over 4" at his current horsepower level, and the answer is robably not enough to notice. Since he already has the 4", it's not worth upgrading.

Actually the question was is there and advantage with the 5 inch over the 4 inch with EGT's..... I personally don't know because I have never had four inch... . I have noticed a difference over my stock exhaust... ... Oo.

Why would anybody put a little 4" pipe on their Cummins? They already have it so 5" is the ONLY upgrade available.

That's what I meant. Will he gain anything EGT-wise by going to 5" over 4", and I say probably not enough to notice.

It's only 4" from muffler back. It's still 3. 5" from the turbo to the muffler.

Don't quote me on this but I think the new 600 is four inch from turbo back!!! But yes Jeff you are correct the 555 has fourn inch after the muffler...

I think on the 600 (and I haven't looked at one, but if past trucks are an indication) the pipe is 3. 5" into the cat, 4" from the cat to the muffler, and 4" from there back. The key to the whole thing is the size of the outlet on the turbo.

It makes sense to go w/ the 5 inch exhaust since my HP will be 550+, and the downpipe in the kit is 5 inch.

I guess my next question is is it possible to make a 5 inch exhaust fit w/the 315 spare or is it just too BIG.
