Doubt it is vacuum as there is no vacuum source left on these trucks. An electrical solenoid makes much more sense. The problem with it will be defeating the built in monitoring of the circuit. It is a good bet the circuit is being monitored for opens and shorts so one won't be able to just cut the sense wire and run it thru a switch. The relay or switching mechanism will have to supply continuity to the sense circuit or you will likely get codes and maybe a limp mode. The sense circuit will usually want a very low amperage return signal to validate the solenoid has engaged, is not open, is not shorted, usually resistance in he 5-100 ohm range is the most common. Care has to be taken to NOT allow any high amperage back on the sense circuit or one will be replacing TIPM, ECU, or whatever incarnation of electronic controller is there. A 5 volt reference signal will usually suffice if one can be found to tap into.
