I have a '95 3500 reg cab and I am trying to decide between the RIP 4" straight exhaust and the 5" straight exhaust. Ya'll guys help me decide. Any pics would be great. let me know what ya'll think.

I am in the same boat as you. I am going with rips straight exhaust too. He said the 5in. has a really loud drone to it. But that is nothing you couldn't help with a little angle iron or if it was really bad a resonater. I would rather just run it straight and see how it is. I like em' really loud anyways. So,I think I am going the 5in route. Plus it's really not that much more.

yea I talked to rip today and he told me the same thing. I like the way the 5" looks with a 6" tip. I like it loud too but it is hard to decide when I don't have any idea on what it sounds like.

Remember this when deciding on the 4" or 5". .

With the HP levels your probably at you wouldn't have any need for the 5" system(except for looks) and may cost yourself horsepower. When you install the bigger 5" setup on a truck which has lower HP(say under 450-500hp estimated) you will not retain enough heat in the pipe to allow for proper exhaust flow. The gasses cool off to quickly inside the exhaust pipe and make the turbo push and work harder to exit the gasses. When this happens you will loose HP and elevate your torque levels. On a normal properly flowing setup the exhaust will flow easily and not cool inside the pipe which provides the proper environment to make maximum HP and normal torque levels. By going to a 5" on mine I lost 18hp at the rear wheels with a setup that had rolled 330hp prior to the change in exhaust. The larger exhaust also elevated the torque level almost 100ft lbs. I also this winter seen a drop in my fuel milage over what I had ran in previous years. When I look over my records now with winter basically over I should have sold the 5" and kept the 4". The easiest way to define the sound differences in the exhausts while straight piped is this,3" has a bark when you hit it,4" is a more of a growl than a bark and 5" has a deeper bellow. As for the "dreaded Drone" issue, well,I drive truck for a living and always keep in my mind this is a diesel and its not supposed to be quiet. If I wanted quiet I'd be driving a Dakota... ... ... . You may want to think about wether or not you'll be going with twins down the road. I know the Piers set requires going with a 5" exhaust as do twin set ups using b2's or big brother turbos.

I went with a 4" but had I considered twins at the time I might of waited until I knew what I was going to do so I wouldn't have to spend money twice.

Sandifer, you don't have your location listed. If your near me, I'll give you a ride and let you hear the 5" for yourself.

That offer stands for anyone else interested in a 5". Or FMS, or yadda yadda...

Hey DTROY come on down to Texas and give me a ride :-laf . I like a deep exhaust note with a noticable whistle. My only future modifications consist of 3gsk,bigger injectors, and possibly a larger turbo. Of course I am going to install a SB clutch and upgrade my 5 spd.

Texas... ouch. That's just a tad too far for me. Just a tad though.

Then again, if you pay for the fuel..... :D
