Ok, here's the deal. I'm going to (hopefully) try out a #4 plate soon in my truck. The timing is at 15. 5 and I have gauges, but other than that it is stock. Any bets as to if the stock clutch will hold? If I slide the plate back would that increase it's chances for survival, or is the #4 just too much?

I know the '95 is a little weak w/ only 175 hp so I'm looking for the biggest "bang for the buck" but I can't afford to replace the clutch right now.

Thanks,

Mike

My guess is it'll be fine. My sig shows what I've got, and while not a #4, I suspect the 5 with 215 injectors may be a fair comparison.

I have slipped my clutch once, that was while towing about 20k with the pedal to the floor in 4th and a loaded log truck about to load on the trailer with the backhoe I was towing.

I backed out of the throttle for a moment and everything has been fine since. That was two years ago.

Were I to do it over, I'd go with a #4.

Good luck, Ronnie

edit; at the time I slipped the clutch, the plate was full forward, it's now slightly back from center to help with egt's.

Looks like your ready wake up that 95. Whatever plate you put ,be sure to throw in the GSK too. Its a top notch bomb. You'll think you have a new truck. Like Mopar guy,I slipped my clutch once also when I first played with my #6 TST. Been fine ever since. You'll have to watch your EGTs more with a #4. Even more so if you tow. Have fun;)

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to try it out and see what happens. :)

I'd just like to get the #4 because my overall plan is to run a #4, 191 DV's and 370's and I'd hate to get one plate now and then have to buy it again later when I have the $$ for clutch work and other toys.

On the govenor spring suggestion, won't I have fewer issues with egt's if I don't run heavier govenor springs? I thought that I read somewhere that the higher rpm range was a big part of the egt issue with these trucks since the stock heads don't flow as well as a 24-valve.
