4" Superlift - How much and How long to install?

Just got my 4" Superlift Kit with Bilsteins. Oo.



Now I'm debating if I should do this myself or let someone else do it?



I have a truck lift and usually do my own work, but this truck don't fit nicely in my garage for the job. I'd have to squeak around walls and stuff... . not much space to move around freely.



How long and how much money have you guys paid to have this lift installed professionaly?

Its not tough, but its a pain in the butt to do the front end without a lift and an axle or transmission jack. The rear is extremely easy but if you get the blocks crooked you can collapse the seats easily before you know it.



If you have a lift and can get your truck overhead, no problem.



This one gets 2-1/2 bloody knuckles on the 1 to 5 scale.



Most shops should be able to do this for about $350-$450. Add the double shock kit and its another $150-$200. That should include an alignment and a warranty too.

One local shop quoted me $800 for the job. It seemed kind of high. And then the son said, "Yea, we've done many lifts before!". This was just after the father saying its expensive because we have to allow for the unknowns. If we would install 2 or 3 lifts then the price would come down since I'd be experienced in the installation. Well... which is it!?!?!?



Anyhow... . I really don't know of any truck places that specialize in this so I'll try the dealer. If I can't get anywhere with them, which I doubt 'cause they can't even install an exhaust brake for me when I bought the truck, I'll resort to doing it in my driveway or in the tight walls of my garage on the lift



I estiimate 6-8 hours. This seem right?

315 BFG's and the American Alloy 589. Weird though, I can't find the 589's on their website so maybe I'm wrong with the number. They look just like 058's that they show here.

As it turned out, the dealer won't touch the lift installation. Said they were instructed to STAY CLEAR of any sort of after market lift kits, etc.

The American Eagle 058's are a 17x8" wheel with 0 offset meaning the mounting surface of the wheel is exactly in the center of the wheel width wise. Our stock wheels have +40mm offset meaning that the wheel mounting surface is 4cm towards the outside of the wheel. If you mount 35's on a stock wheel, there seems to be fewer clearance issues. With a wheel 4cm (1. 5") further out than stock like the 058's, I don't think a leveling kit would be enough. 4" should be fine though.

I took some pics and will post them when complete. The install went well. A few things were a little unexpected (like having to remove elbow on exhaust right after turbo for clearance purposes to remove upper trailing link).



It took me about 10 hours just to complete the front suspension. This was working by myself and taking some pics along the way (and a few breaks). I'll get the rear done tonight.



I regret not getting before height measurements. :{

The leveling kit won't clear aftermarket rims with the offset I purchased. I wanted something with a wider stance. So, I went with the lift.



An added bonus is the kit rides extremely well. Much better then re-using the stock springs with a steel spacer.

And... . with 35's on, the approach and departure angles are fantastic, the ride is great, my gooseneck HT and Desert Fox ride perfectly level, the floorboards stay out of the water on the creek crossing (the axles get submerged though) and I never bottom out on the lava rocks anymore and there isn't a hint of front end wobble ever.



Its not always just to clear bigger tires.

This won't happen UNTIL the slacker at Superlift ships me the U-Bolts. Somehow the third box of my lift kit wasn't shipped. When I went over the parts in the kit, I thought the stock u-bolts were to be re-used since the spacer is only 2". Nope! New U-Bolts are required.



Should get the box next week and complete that night or so. Pics of installation and lifted truck to follow!!!
