2350 miles so far and I am about 16. 5 MPG hand calc'ed. I drive around 67-70 MPH on the highway and about 40 percent is stop and go city driving. I have been seeing a slight improvement with every fillup.

I too am going to borrow a heavy equipment trailer and tow for a couple hundred miles to speed up the break in period.

Just checked my first tank with almost 500 miles. The tank was one fwy trip of about 75 miles and the rest was driving in a small rural city and rural road. Hand calculated at 17. 0 ... ... . larv

That's what my '03 HO did at first. Sounds par to me.

Thanks for most of the feed back. I have a 600 not 555 so mileages on 555 don`t mean much to me. I like the idea of no cat and flow through exhaust and other than stock intake. Makes good sense. I like the chrome tip idea and maybe one of those fake hood scoops. How about the tag, have made one fit the 600 yet?Even the dealer wants to know what kind of mileage I`m getting, I think lots of potential buyers are having second thoughts. Thanks again Hunter
Yes, the TAG fits the 600.

Thanks car_nut57; I`ll have to swing in to your place of business in the near future and checkout all your goodies. Your only 2 1/2 hours from my front door step. Hunter

Ol'TrailDog,

You mention that you "dodged the bullet twice, once in 98 when I got "stuck" with a 12v and now getting "stuck" with a 555. " Why do you consider the 98 12-valve engine better then the 24-valve engine? Isn't more air and easier flowing better?

I'm not really the individual to discuss the pros and cons of the 12v verses the 24v. My main contribution to the TDR forums is spewing nonsense. :)

From what I know is the 12v was a mechanical beast with a proven track record of longevity and reliability. I thought my 12v was a fantastic engine with great power and powerband. Unfortunately it was a regular cab, the five speed sucked, had rear drum brakes, and the steering was like herding a recalcitrant mule down a trail (and I didn't have the misfortune of experiencing the fabled death wobbles).

The 24v are electronic driven gizmos. The advantage is the ability to tweak with the flash of the electronic programs. However, we all know the reliabiltiy of the hammer versus, say, a CD player.

All in all, the 04 is a better truck, but if I had a 98 12v quad 3500 I'd be content too (after I changed the trackbar and stuck a 6 speed in it).

I haven't had any problems with the 04 engine, love the 6 speed 3. 73 combo - my best cruising CTD, the brakes are great, the frame/suspension/ride is the best on or off highway.

my 2cents.
