4 wd noise & disengagement

'07.5 - when put in 4wd lot of gear slip noise. sounds like gear grinding and front wheel engagement is intermittent. Is it an actuator in front dif not engaging all the way?

If it is coming from the front only thing it could be is the splines wore off an axle or you already have a blown u joint, but that would make noise all the time. The entire front drive turns all the time in our trucks. It engages in the transfer case.

Gotta get someone to find the noise first.

With all the snow, slush & slop I have neglected to climb under and properly troubleshoot.

If everything is good when in 2x4 it could be the chain in the t-case jumping. Unfortunately, you need to get under it to find where it is coming from. Not fun when ground is covered with slop.
