I have put mine in 4wd drive numerous times. Yesterday I put it in 4 lo and it did not feel like the gearing changed. The indicator light on switch came on but it was blinking. In 4wd h it is stays lit. I thinks something is not switching. Anybody have any problems with them yet?

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone had a problem with the electric x-fer case.

I'm not gloating or implying "I told you so!!"... I really hope you get it straigtened out.

Did you try shifting the auto transmission to neutral? They won't go into low range unless it's in neutral... .

Matt

I just talked to the service fellow and he said it's probably the switch. They already had to replace one and he had another fellow call him asking the same questions I was so it's probably the switch. This is the first one I have had with electrical transfer switch.

The switch could be bad, but I'd try this first if I were you:

(I'll say it again... . )

Most likely nothing wrong. I think if you look at the instructions it says you have to be moving slowely. If everything is not meshed up it will not shift unlike a stick where you can pull on it and grind it into gear. Mine will take a little bit to get into low some times, but with the 6 speed I don't use it much.

When it is flashing it is trying to get into gear.

Like he said ^^^

On my truck to get it to go into 4 low, you have to do a little fiddleing around. It wont just pop in. . specially if you are just sitting there.

I find that if I put it in 1st, let the clutch out at idle to get just barely moving, then disengage the clutch and flip it to 4lo, it will usualy pop in as it coasts to a stop.

Hope that helps. . !

Blinking light = mode not engaged properly, per the owner's manual.

In ALL of this insane weather we've been having I've been in/out of 4WD more times than in the past few years combined, and no issues with the dial-a-drive, other than one instance of operator error - proof that NOTHING is beyond the most creative idiots! :D

How to confuse dial-a-drive:

Turn into snow/ice covered driveway from clear road in 1st gear/2WD.

As soon as front wheels hit slippery stuff, dial in 4HI - BUT hit bump at same time and dial to 4LO while "goosing" throttle. Blinking light on 4LO tells you you're an idiot

Stop truck, dial back to 2WD

Dial to 4HI, all is well.

The electronic systems blink at you to tell you you've screwed up. The shift lever grinds and doesn't move.

As much as I did NOT want the dial-a-drive, I like it now.

Im really happy i got the manual shifter for my 4x4. For 04. 5 They have them even in the Laramie's now. Pretty cool that dodge is listening to us.

The blinking light definitely means the shift has not been successfully completed. Read your owners manual "carefully"on how to shift into 4 low. There are certain reguirements that have to be met before the shift will be allowed to protect the transfer case from damage.

I also was a tradtionalist who did not want the electonic shift, but now that I have it I really like it.

My 95 Ram you could not shift on the fly, allthough you were supposed to be able too. This dial-a-drive is a breeze compared to the 95. Pete

I tryed it today and it works. I have to put it in neutral and then to drive and it will go into 4 L. It just different than the manual ones I had in the past.

My dial a drive has NOT worked right since new (450 miles now) schedueled to go in for the second time next week. The "service 4x4" light comes on. I didn't even know this light existed. It worked 2 whole times flawlessly after I got it back from being fixed - they replaced the MODULE & said this is not the first one they have seen to go bad. Maybe next time they fix it- it will work 6 or 7 times , if I'm lucky. If a bad module can prevent your whole 4wd drive train to fail then 'thanks but no thanks. ' I think I would rather rely on "the module" in my brain to let me decide if it is ok to use the truck in 4wd or not.

I wonder if I can persuade them to put the manual lever in the next time it fails. Hmmm Then what do I do with the dial knob?

Bad thing is when it did fail again today is when I was trying to manuver my snowmobile trailer around my other vehicle & as a result of not haveing 4wd the rear of the truck lost traction & slide side ways just enough to catch my parked car with the back edge of the trailer.

Give me the lever. . If it can happen to me it can happen to others just when you need it the most.

While checking to see what it would take to do a conversion to electric (it's ugly, bosses on t-case are not drilled and tapped and are to tight to get to with case installed) I was also looking at the manual override requirements for a friend with an electric T-case. The short answer is; two bolts (9/16 0r 1/2) and unplug the actuator/motor///vise grips to the selector shaft with one foot/leg rocking the truck by the front wheel(IN PARK ON FLAT GROUND),select required range and off you go. Dose'nt sound fun,but deep in the backcountry or miles from a shop it will work.

MY dial drive took some getting used to. when new it was tight after a while shifting here and there in 4-wheel it looosened up . you have to keep the torque off while shifting then come to a stop in low range. 03 3500 laramie LB 6-speed 4x4 Dee Zee runnerboards
