Anyone looking for a deer lease in N. Texas?

Happy Birthday, me4osu!

At the Reno Air Races this weekend, everything worked out great for me... finally! I introduced myself to the Head of Engineering for Lancair Kit Aircraft in Redmond, Oregon and we ended up having an informal interview Sunday morning in the front-seat of his car (never expected that to ever happen) and now I have a job offer for next spring! :D:D

I start for 3 months on hourly, doing both the engineering stuff as well as working in the build-shop putting them together, as he likes the enginerds to know what goes into them so they'll make them as simple as possible. After three months, have a review and if I'm what he's looking for (and if I'm still wanting to work there) I go onto salary somewhere between $40-$45k/year. It's not a Boeing $55k/year out-of-college job, but it's the job I've wanted since I started College, and it's where I want to live! That will make up for the $$$.

Anyway, I go up over Thanksgiving break and spend a day w/ them, then over x-mas I'm going to go work for a week, then probably over spring break I'll work another week. He really was looking for somebody full-time starting October 1st, but he said it's not crucial and he wants to wait for me to graduate. :D Great small company w/ only 70 employees in Redmond and 100 oversees somewhere (assembly). 5 engineers on staff, I'll be number 6!

The other benefit? Going from being 20 hours from the g/f to being less than 2. :D And even less then that in an airplane, which I can get from the company for gas only :p . Then once I have my 300 hours total time, I can rent the actual Lancairs, not just the C150. :D Oh, another benefit? I can build any airplane for myself at COST!!! Also, all help from the factory during the build process is FREE!!! He said "when you want to build your own plane" not "if... . " :D

had to brag some

Josh

I would give up the left one for one of the prop-jets! Especially w/ the new panel they are putting in them now...

Panel for the newest turbine Lancair still being built at the factory. Don't know if you guys know anything about Chelton, but they are the best money can buy!

And the tail of the IV-P turbine that was at the show... the paint on this thing was incredible! Under the cowling there were more angels and clouds on top of the engine too! Definitely a show plane... some day I'll log time in it. :D

Congrats, Lancair's are nice planes. Seen a Chelton setup in a single Otter this last summer I rode in. Pilot was showing me all the neat things it could do. Bums me out to go sit back in the Cherokee 180's and fly.

Buddy from work just got back from the Reno Air Races. Next year I'm going to Oshkosh if I have to drive, fly, or walk.

Congratulations on the offer. Trust me, a job there for what they will offer will be better that working for Boeing for double. A small company like that will treat you like they expect to be treated. They also weed out the slackers, at big companies they become managers. I used to think Dilbert was as funny as hell until I went to work for big company, now I know it's all based on fact.

Congrats on the job! A Chief Engineer I work with is assembling a Lancair in Haines, AK.

I think you deserve to brag some, you created the situation, and prepared yourself for it.

Congrats on the job, Josh. See?... All that hard work does pay off...

I went this year for a day... here's some thoughts:

1) A day is NOT enough to even remotely begin to see one section in any detail.

2) The women folk are staying at home. Those that don't like planes should not attend with me next time.

3) I now really like radial powered warbirds - especially the Corsair.

Matt,

I was going to take a Cherokee 180 with a buddy and my roomate was going to go with his dad in his 175 Cessna. The 180 never got the new powerplant it was promised so I couldn't take it. We plan on going for the entire time camping at the plane.

To me, that's the best way to attend this event...

We got lucky, though. Drove in at around 9AM and very easily found a parking spot. Took a shuttle bus to the main gate and there we were.

I got burnt bright enough to spite a lobstah that day... so bring sunscreen and a good hat... There's plenty to eat/drink on-site... so you may not need to bring a cooler... The beer tent is far away from everything... but that's an end of the day thing, anyhow.

Matt

& here I sit looking out the window, right @ the races.

next year, we'll have to post on the events forum & get together. Oo.

Glad to hear things are happening for you Josh. I'm with you on rather living & working in central Oregon than in Washington. Keep up the good work.
