Cummins Introduces More Powerful RV Engine -- 04/11/2002



Cummins Inc. has introduced a 400-hp engine rating for its ISL engine for the motorhome market. The ISL is a fully electronic in-line six-cylinder diesel engine capable of providing ample power for motorhomers.

According to the company, the ISL 400 provides excellent fuel economy, as well as electronics that make servicing easy. The ISL 400 can be outfitted with a Cummins-designed C Brake by Jacobs, a compression brake that greatly increases stopping power while reducing wear on vehicle brakes, Cummins reports.

Yep those Cummins guys keep it up and they will catch up to us sooner or later.

The ISL is a larger version of the ISC series. The ISL is 540 CID and the ISC is 505 CID. Motorhomes can carry a higher rating because of their lighter weight vs. a truck/tractor and being coupled to an automatic transmission.



I'm surprised that they can squeeze an engine brake under the rocker covers.



Now if Dodge/Freightliner would build a 4500-5500 sized truck with an optional ISC/ISL with a "real" Allison... ... ... ...
