Towing Question

RV faucet keeps dripping???

. . so yes I think it might just add up to the weight of a camper (or two), of which I also own one of those too, albeit not as big.

That camper of yours only weights 1500 lbs, saw it in another thread.

I am done with this thread.

So am I.

My old truck was a 3/4 ton camper special with an 11" camper. SRW. I blew a tire at 65mph on a straight stretch of road. To say it was scary is an understatement. Thats why I have a new (sorta) dodge with a much lighter popup camper.

What you can do, and what you should do a whole nother story.

I know its done all the time, but i loot at gvwr as limits to be avoided, not exceeded.

See post #5. I'm in LaGrande Oregon & the passes weren't too bad. We took my father in laws 1-ton & all was good! Coming back tomorrow & the weather is suppose to be good for a couple of days... . We'll see!

You made the right decision to take the dually. Grizzly you're flogging a dead horse trying to convince someone who "thinks" they know all about it. Duallies are not just about weight capacity or how far down the rear of your truck goes. It is the width of the extra tires. I don't "think" this, I know it from experience. We're not talking cement bags or fertilizer we're talking big heavy campers. 5k of anything low in the bed is nowheres near the same as 5k of large camper.

Home! 700 miles later round trip we made it. Luckily, the weather was with us. I pretty much knew the responses I would get in regards to my post but I was really nervous about going over (2) passes in December in this state with just a 2wd... . Attached are a few pics.

That is a nice camper and I too am glad you made the round trip without incident. Is that Ferd a diesel or gasser?

Gasser! You probably just can't imagine how hard it was to drive with a bag over my head... . Double Whammy! A Ferd & a Gasser :{

OHHHHH the shame of it all :-laf :-laf

Sooooo, what are you going to do to make amends :-laf :D for your embarassment, to redeam yourself to the DIESEL GODS :-laf :-laf

Well, I spent the day working on my baby! Oil & filter change, FF housing & filter swap, & air bag repair. Put the 5vr hitch back in the truck, pulled the 5vr out & gonna start gettin it ready to go Winter camping.

Tomorrow a wash job is in order inside & out..... Hopefully my truck will forgive me for the 700+ miles of shame I did behind the wheel of a Ferd Gasser!

Your sins are forgiven my son, go out and sin no more.

I would not be afraid to take the one ton 2by2

I would put a good set of winter tread tires 10 ply on the rear and away I would go. No problem and with the weight and drive like you should you will be OK. I went to Oregon a few years ago In late Nov. and got in a storm that they close the roads. I got a pair of winter treads with studs and 800 pounds of sand in the bed pulling a enclose car trailer went through Cabbage mountain and the snow banks were higher then my truck. I was driving a TWO wheel drive Dodge with a cummins. The temp was 4 below up there. They were stopping big truck making them put chains on and I told them I had studs in my winter treads and they check to see that I did. I had no trouble at all. My wife said never again on a trip like that.

Did your father-in-law purchase the camper from Northwood Manufacturing Co. or from Thunder RV in La Grande? I'm considering ordering a Arctic Fox 5th wheel from Thunder RV, unless I can purchase directly from the factory. Whoever he purchased it from, did they make him a good price?

He purchased it from a RV dealer in Everett, WA... On Hwy 99 we have multiple dealers selling a variety of different brand RV's. He bought the 2000 model year which was the 1st year that a slide was available in a camper. He had a problem or two but they were quick to stand behind it & make it right.

I too owned a Northwood coach (a 24' Nash 5vr) & whenever I called them for assistance I foumd them to be great. In 2004 my wife & I were looking to buy a larger RV. We both liked the 27-5 Arctic Fox 5vr but because of the weight opted to buy the Keystone Cougar instead. Both very nice coaches but the weight difference pushed us to the Cougar 276. "Klenger" on TDR has the Artic Fox we were looking at. ( http://www.klenger.net/arctic-fox/index.html)

As far as price I'm not sure what they paid. They traded in a 2 yo camper when they bought their Arctic Fox but my father in law said it was $28k to replace their camper with the 2007 model. I believe he said the sticker on the 2000 was like $22k...

I hope I answered all your questions. .

That is a big help, thank you. We're thinking of Thunder RV in La Grande, OR. I have a brother in Grants Pass, OR that I alway enjoy spending time with anyway. Happy New Year.
