oops!!

scared me a little... I'm pretty sure the valves were floating a bit because it sputtered and popped. Luckily it was only very briefly in 2nd gear w/ hardly any load on the engine.

everything seems fine. scared me though! LOL!

didn't beat the Ford... beat my buddy's firebird... we went from a roll... I shoulda been in 3rd, but I was in 2nd... revs came up QUICK!!! LOL! his car is a 305 automatic, so between the popping at the top of 2nd, and the slow shift to 3rd, he put a lot of ground on me... but by the top of 4th gear, I had about three bus lengths on him :D

if I woulda started out in 3rd, he probably would have gotten out on me just as far, but I think I woulda reeled him in quicker.

Forrest

clarification: there was no Ford. I have not been pulled by a Powerstroke yet! obviously not implying that my truck is faster than every Ford on earth, just saying I haven't run into a fast one yet :p

I generally shift at about 3400... I've wound it out beyond there, but I try to keep it at 3400 or less. I'd never run into valve float like that though. It gives ya a sick feeling in your stomach! LOL!

Forrest

timing is at 16*

haven't had it on the dyno, but it pulls hard above 3000... 3400 comes up quick in 2nd, and I gotta wind it out in 3rd, so when I hit 4th, I'll be right in the sweet spot.

Forrest

I was told not to go over3200 rpm's on my truck. I have a1997 12 valve with a 3k kit , banks stinger plus and a DTT trans

Forrest - if you had a six-speed you'd have another sweet spot alot closer than the one you were looking for without spinning your mighty Cummins to four grand. Jeez man, they come apart at 4200.

Mine quit revving at 3600 rpm, must have been fuel as it hasn't bent any valves.

In low range 2nd gear with 33x13. 50-15 M/T bajas 3600 came on real fast, even when climbing the sand hills. Going up the dunes it would up shift into 3rd and still pull 'till 33-3400 at times if I were to let it. When in 3rd I'd try to maintain 3000-3200 rpm.

But.....

I also slipped a click on a retainer, again. Atleast that is why I figure it suddenly quit idling after a 3600 rpm pass. Did this once before and that is what it was.

BTW, I do have a 3K GSK.

IF my tach goes past 3200 rpm's with my 3k kit it won't hurT my valves or motor ? I have a DTT trans and after about 1year it started slipping. DTT is shipping me a new one . Looks like this weekend it will be put in. Ihope I can enjoy my new trans soon

Don't know about yours, but mine is still OK.

Turned the idle stop up for now and driving every day.

i have the 4k gsk and 60lb valve springs and i can't get more than 3200 and the dyno graph shows a big drop after 2600 to 2800 then it spikes again from 2825 to 2950 at that point she's done fueling i installed the springs with initial plus 3 clicks and that droped my idle down about 100rpm's but since then my idle has come down another 100 rpm's so i sit with a/c on at about 650. before i was at 850. dose anyone have any ideas on my setup?
