i am looking at a 40 ft King of the Road fifth wheel. It has 2 slides. It is a 1994 triple axle and is in fair condition. Inside quite nice. Large slide on the living room and a small slide in the bedroom with a queen size bed. Outside a few dings nothing major.

Any way i am thinking of buying it and would appreciate some input on the value of it. I found out what nada says, but that is not always what they bring.

thanks

You did not identify what size truck you will be towing it with. At 40' it will be HEAVY. If you are only going to tow it a short distance and put it at the lake for the summer one of the newer 1 ton Dodges would do the job. If you want to tow it all over then you need a medium dty truck.

i have a person who will haul it with a Ford 550 for $800 from Boise to Phoenix, so that part is taken care of.

I checked on the weight of it . It has a factory listed dry weight of 11,910 lbs axle weight and 2,650 hitch pin weight. Initially, I was very worried about the weight because i thought it was much heavier than that. However, i was looking at the rated gross weight of 17,000. At the dry weight i believe i could tow it reasonably with my 3/4 ton dodge. But will probably pay to have it relocated for my mother.

Anyway, it has NADA low book value of approx. $18,000. But it seems to me that large trailers like this do not sell very well because they are hard to move.

I am trying to figure out if i should buy it. i have the opportunity to buy it from a friend for $12,000.

Can anybody offer their ideas of what it should be worth?????

40 ft King of the Road with 2 slides, nice cabinets, fridge, ceiling fan, gas range, microwave, washer and dryer, fairly good condition.

On the negative side, a couple of minor dings and 2 of the 3 awnings need new fabric.

Your right about the size, that work against it, but the price seems low, as most of the used smaller run are price well bove that. Just Make sure your motherlaw is happy with it. My Dad tried that for Gradmother, and se want a blood Single wide model, not a travel travel. Is she OK for getting up and doen the stairs to the bedroom. YOu always build a ram to get in to it.

I checked with her and she seems quite happy about the possibility of getting it. She is currently living in a 30ft single wide.

Before inspecting this fifth wheel I was worried about the stairs myself. However, there are only two easy stairs to access the fifth wheel portion of the trailer that has the bathroom and bedroom. It actually requires more effort to enter the trailer form either of the 2 doors. Anyway my mother is quite fit so this is not a problem. (something i am grateful for)

I have been looking across the internet for approx. values and I am becoming convinced that it will be a good purchase price.

Does anyone know how the "King of the Road" trailer line ranks?? Is it considered High End or Average or ???

thanks

Call RV repair shops, not any that sell RV's, they will push there line. Ask them which are better from the standpoint of repair record and quality. It has always worked for me. Phoenix area is a great place to do your research on RV quality and frequency of repair as they have more RV's than most cities. The price sounds right, good luck. :)
