Stock I would see 32-34 and then drop off to 30. I'm in the same boat with my Juice, I've got it set to limit boost to 36 lbs. but the power falls on it's face when she defuels. Without boost limiting I can easily see 42+ which bothers me. Guess it's time to call TST for the manual boost controller and set it at 34-36 to keep the turbo happy.

Its not the HG you need to worry about it is the turbo and egt's..... We are starting to see the ill effects of high egt's on these motors and it is not pretty. Valves are tulipping and/or breaking. This pretty much can eat you motor up.

Is that thing maken any power at 40psi? I would think that thats alittle outta that things efficiency map. Or is my thinkin way off base? :-laf

It's most definitely out of it's efficiency island. :-laf But it still makes power. I can set boost to 30psi (stock) and slowly crank it up and watch the EGTs get cooler and power go up. So despite being overworked, as long as the power increases and EGTs decrease, I'll keep cranking it up.

Sustainability (or lack thereof) is the key. Shoot, in stock power levels the stock turbo is barely able to keep EGTs cool under sustained heavy load. So I think as long as it's only kept to short bursts, driving the compressor out of it's efficiency range isn't as bad as it sounds.

Stock turbo pressure

I ran 40psi for probably a year with my stock turbo b-4 going twins,... NO problem. And at the time I didn't have the ARPS. I went ATS Twins and did the ARPS at the same time. AK RAM had been running in the low 60s for some time so I set my wastegate at 63psi and didn't have any problem for probably 6 months. But when I went up to ATS to get my Aurora 2k upgraded they told me the 63psi was a potential problem and they told me that very low 50s was the better setting. I now run 52psi and I sense NO difference in power from the 63psi and I'll probably keep my headgasket a lot longer. Also I believe I recall reading that RC COX runs low 50s or high 40s on his truck and he runs in the 11sec range. Obviously, that's enough if you don't have a fireringed head.

again we get into the volume issue. its not so much pressure or boost that makes power, its the air volume, i dont care if it is at 100psi you can get more cooler air @ 50 psi with the proper charger, but i can say this the higher the pressure initialy the more power quicker in the band, same with cp3's and fass pumps, more pressure more responce, but we still need more continuous volume.

Called TST and they no longer carry the manual bost controller to override the electronic controlled wastegate. Any ideas as to where to buy and what parts I would need to accomplish my small feat.

I believe Quadzilla has it and you also may check with Industrial Injection.

At 40 psi, i wonder what the drive pressure is at?

It would be over 1:1 for sure. I think the stock charger pre '04. 5 passed 1:1 by 30 psi but it's a little better for the newer version.

The turbo goes out of its efficiency map by 35psi as I recall from the TDR article not too many issues ago. Discharge temps from the compressor side rise dramatically and you're treading backwards by 40 (temps are sizzling by then!).

Somewhere I have the kit that came with my TST for my 04. 5. I did not need it since I had an II SPS66. Not sure if I know where it is. It was boost bolt, tubing and a couple fittings into a short hose that was plugged. If you don't find what you need PM me and I will look for it. Had a burglary about a month ago and things were tore up pretty bad and somethings missing still not discovered yet. But I doubt they would take that.
