high mount a/c bracket???

throttle cable

Has anyone done an old 40's style power wagon w/ a cummin's? I'd love to do one someday. I'd love to put a 12v with manual tran's and some slash cut stack's just above the cab. maybe with a little lift and a nice set of meaty tire's. Maybe someone can point me in the direction of a goodpower wagon website. Please show Picture's if you have one!:)

I have a an old family 1951 flat fender that I just put a cummins 4bt into. I will start restoring soon... vintagepowerwagons.com By far the best. Let me know what you find. They are a lot of fun, but not cheap to restore.

Awesome!!! Thank's for the great info. That bumble bee is neat. Look's like you put a lot of time and care into it, and it look's great. I take it the 4bt is the way to go, due to clearance? Is it possible to stuff a 6bt into them. I saw the video on youtube of the red flat bed, but Idon't know what motor is in it. Are they expensive to restore due to part's availability, or just high prices to get them. It will be a long time before I do one, but it is a dream for me to definately have one someday. They look so tuff! Thank's again guy's! Someday!!:D

Thanks for the kind words. You will find that a 4BT/4BTA is more than enough power. I am building a Power Wagon Swivel Frame (my joint design) this fall. It too will have a 4BTA (CPL 857)/NV-4500. You can drop a B3. 9 in without cutting any sheet metal. You will need a few extra leafs in the front springs and probably do a slight notch in your oil pan for front 3rd member clearance. I know a few who have dropped B5. 9's in PW's. You will have to cut the fire wall and make a dog house in the cab under the dash. There is precious little room as it is, without a dog house. The B5. 9's weigh even more, so more suspension considerations need to be given. Honestly, a B5. 9 in a PW/M37 or WC is a waste of effort, the B3. 9 will do all you want. You will need to use 4. 89 ring and pinion in the 3rd members and a OD 5 speed transmission for good road use.

If you get 'really' serious, PM me and we can talk off line. I can help you level most of the bumps in the conversion.

I like seeing this thread here.

I've been all over the net looking for a flat fender for about a year now. I think I found the one that might be working for me. I'm going to wait until after a rally up north next week, where I can get a good look at a few FFPW's and how they've been set up. I planned on a 4BT swap once I had the truck that would work for me.

I might hook up with one or you two that has done the swap, since I'm dead serious about a FFPW with a 4BTA. A quick question. What's a ballpark budget for the swap, and what's a ballpark for the number of hours or days for it?

I take it your going tot he California PW Rally at Holister ? You will find a lot of nice PW's and a bunch of guys who know what they are doing. When I am asked the cost of a swap I share the following;

Budget $8500. 00 if you have nothing for the swap and can do 'everything' your self. If you have to have fab work done for you, the price will climb like a homesick angel. Along with the swap, you will ned to address, Power Steering, Power Disk Brakes on all 4 wheels, Suspension upgrades on the front axle. And if your PW is basically original, you should re-wire her as the old wiring usually is in bad shape. Time wise, its really hard to say. Depends on how much dedicated time you and allocate. To do everything mentioned above, its not a 30 day job LOL.

yep... that's where I'm headed. It saves me a trip to Iowa, but for the right reason, I'm not above a trip there the following week. I'm certified to 1/2" structural and play with a wire-feed as well as tanks, so I figure the fab part is doable. The motor mounts might be the only thing I may have a shop make.

I like to avoid mistakes and I intend the truck I build to work, last a long time, and hopefully not be too embarrassed to park next to your rig if our paths ever cross. Your posts on the other boards are inspiring, as well as your work.

Sarj;

Well, thanks for the kind words. You will find the Holister Rally a lot of fun and great people. Sure sounds like your good to go on the welding/fab. If our paths ever cross, please introduce your self. I do not recognize your user id. PM me if I can ever help.

I wouldn't... but that's just me.

Nothing beats the cool of a pre-68 Power Wagon, and what's making me take the step is to mate it with a Cummins... probably the ultimate truck. If money is ever an object taking something on, I wouldn't do that either, especially if there's a woman in the house to deal with.

Nobody has mentioned Cabell Garbee. He has a whole lot of info posted on putting a 4BT into his M37, along with a bunch of research on tires, wheels, trans, data and other good stuff. Google Garbee and Cummins, or similar. you will find it... ... ... ... .

there are a decent amount of them out there. I am in the process of looking for an m37 to swap in a 6bt/nv4500. Problem iv found is most of the ones that are worth the swap are sitting on the west coast while im in NH.
