I can't believe it either.

But it's true. :D

I'll post pictures of my tips and tricks soon.

I need to spend time resizing and putting arrows on them.

2nd gen. single piston calipers

If you guys had the early style single piston calipers I would be impressed.

The 2nd gen single piston caliper brakes suck. (1995? to 1999?)#@$%!

The dual piston calipers are way better and last allot longer. :-laf

That's 41,800 miles of mostly stop and go city driving. :D

At about 8000 GVW.

I used to get 12,000 miles out of a set.

That's why I'm happy no make that over-joyed!... Oo. :DOo.

The front pads on my 98 lasted 100K +. I did them just because I felt bad for them. They were 40% +.

I dont think I'll ever need to do the shoes on the back. :D

YMMV JM. 02

Hey I understand you. I hardly ever tow so mine will last a long time. At least new pads are cheaper than the payments on the dual calipers. :-laf

WELL, it's true I've heard lotsa moans from earlier 2nd generation truck owners concerning short pad life - so you have reason to be Oo. Oo. Oo. .

The biggest single difference between mileage on trucks can be seen on manual vs. automatic transmissions.

oem brakes

My 5sp. got 109k out of the original pads/shoes. The only reason I replaced them was because they looked nasty,( ie. dirty and rusty). The back was replaced because one axle seal leaked on the shoe. Both F&B were only half gone. MoPar went back on , again !

I have 180,000 on my factory pads and shoes. I think the use of a exhaust brake since 76,000 has a lot to do with this. I do haul, mostly in winter time.

Geeeee

OK you guys with Sticks are just bragging.

If ya'll lived in the city your left leg would be twice the size of your right leg. :D

Us Auto trans guys have almost no engine braking (without an exhaust brake)

So go easy on us give us a brake... . :-laf:-laf

I run between 9-10,000lb GVW and get 20-25,000 miles out of the left front pads and 35-40,000 miles out of the right front pads. I have been using wagner's thermo quiet pads, other pads seem to last half as long. My truck is an automatic, minimal traffic, but lots of gravel roads and lots of road miles. There seems to be a lot of variance from one set of pads to the next (even though they have all been Thermo Quiet).

I have 236000 on the truck and am still on the same rear brakes and on the third set of front brakes. Got the truck with 68000 so I believe I have all the figures right. Very little towing, daily commuter highway and city.

267k on my fronts and 389k on the original rears. Yes I have a manual and exhaust brake and am easy on brakes. Yes I ran OTR transporting RVs for 265k miles. About 115k of those were loaded. I have used a little over half probably on the fronts. The rears still have a long ways to go also and I opened up the hight sensing valve long ago too. I have never replaced the calipers and I still have VERY little drag, unlike a lot of old Fords I work on. I make sure to keep the pins clean and lubed. I have never done the rotors although I need to at some point as I have a . 007 run out on the left one, didn't check the right but I can feel them slightly on slow easy braking. My brakes will now start wearing faster as I'm no longer OTR.

Anyway yeah, 42k is good for an auto, good job.

Mine's a mixture of city and hwy driving, and I just flipped 110,000 miles on original front pads and rear shoes. NV5600 and Jake Brake.
