Oh I have no idea about that gun I have seen it on one of the TV gun shows they shot a plywood cut out of a man at the car door that would be one nasty way to go. I have a 629 in 44 with a 2 and a half or 3 in barrel and thats enough fun for me

My ex-coworker(because I retired) was offering me his SW 29 for $600, his is in pristine condition, probably less than 50 rounds through the gun, but it has a 9" barrel, not incognito. I require something small but adequate, for these, this is not me

The one and only Wolf, I have encountered to date was as tall as this, but skinny and shedding, also had a big electronic collar around it's neck, rumor has it, that if it's heart stops, a satellite will snap a picture... .

Just an observation/opinion so it's not worth much also I am on the small side, but.....



To me a 44 mag. or larger is a hunting round and requires at least a 6" barrel. Anything less is not good for hunting or self-defense. It is too loud, painful to shoot, one handed recoil would be slow to get back on target, (you can't always have two hands free) the muzzle blast would blind you at night and the concussion of a small confined area would pop your ears.

Those are good points for defense. 15 missed shots are useless if you can do it in one good hit.

My grandfather had a 41 Magnum Model 29 that he was deadly with. But the long barrel made it like a rifle! I always joked with him that he was halfway to the target with the muzzle... ...



As for the wolf and having your picture taken, that's why your fully camo'ed, laying on the ground 600 yds away. I've never heard about the camera taking a picture. I know the older collars would send out a signal whenever they didn't track motion or heat for a specific amount of time. That's why you caught a neighborhood dog when you were passing through some random place..... the black bears had 'em too. Those would go around the axle on some random semi truck in a truck stop..... preferably one headed to California.....

Nick, all opinions are welcome, kinda the reason for the forum, so thanks, you bring up some very valid points.

Yes, I concur that a longer barrel would be more accurate, and I have heard alot of folks state "you cannot hit anything with anything less than a 6" barrel" with a large caliber handgun. Now to play devil's advocate... I have yet to see any of the folks so sure of that statement, willing to be a target from such a weapon at any distance. You would have to be out of your mind, just saying.

I may not be able to hit anything either, but I'll sure enjoy the process of practicing. Jess

JJPage, over many years I have shot a few different revolvers. Mostly Colts, S&W, Rugers and Freedom Arms. My grip size limits what I can get a hold of. A heavy recoiling revolver is not fun to shoot! However A long barreled revolver is not handy. I'd rather have a big bore carbine as opposed to a long barreled revolver for defense against bears, etc.

The short barreled revolver has its place. A last ditch defense. If you are concerned about bears. You want a heavy solid slug and the ability to put that slug in the appropriate place at, say, 25 yards or less.

The Grip size and shape define the ability for you to control and absorb the recoil and accurately place your shots. You must be able to deploy that weapon, strong AND weak handed.

Watch the double action Resolvers. I bought a S&W 629 . 44 Magnum, many moons ago. Their fit and finish , at that time left alot to be desired. The main thing I had issue with was reliability of the resolver when deployed for a high angle shot! The loaded ammo would slid back against the recoil plate and lock up the revolver in double action and single action. The cylinder would not rotate until you lowered the muzzle!

I like S&W revolvers, and I sent this one back! At the time S&W was owned by Thompkins, PLc. They were not happy and tried a few underhanded tricks to retaliate against me. That is not the case, presently, however, this is a heads up. Check out ALL revolvers, regardless of brand to see if they will lock up on you in any unusual but possible firing position. GregH

GH, That is a good tip about the cylinder locking up in certain positions, Thanks, it will be one of the things I will test. Never would have thought a cartridge would fit loose enough to slide back and forth in that manner.



I almost always carried my . 44 carbine when we would go berry picking, and quite often on ATV rides, they sometimes coincided with one another. The rifle was not doing me a lot of good on the ATV rack 50ft away, or in the back of the Wife's jeep, while we are picking, so the reason for the handgun. I still plan to have one of my rifles handy when we go out on our excursions.



I have shot large bore handguns, but this will be the first one I have owned. I am kind of excited, pick it up tomorrow, because I do not yet have a cc permit, I had to wait 5 days.

The wolf is great trophy to some. I think that they are a MAGFINICANT ANIMAL and would not kill one personally unless they meant harm to something I care about. But that is JMO. It looks like it was a big rascal The cattle ranchers around here will shoot them on site. About 4 months after we moved to MT we were out side and heard a howl that was pretty neat to me.

These were all taken across the border in Idaho, they now issue a permit for $11 per year to any resident wanting a Wolf, because they are getting so out of hand.

Wow!!!!! I never knew that they were that big dont know how tall that guy is but that is one hefty boy. Any idea of the weight of the wolf? Im really stoked about the size. Im kind of weird (I know you have figured that out already) about NOT!! being the top of the food chain. I really like to see the beast's that live in the woods and are!! the top of the chain. Question the Wolf is a pack animal. What do the others do when you shoot the one do they just run or do they take a look at what happen to the downed family member. Kind of like to know the mind of an adversary or possible adversary before I NEED to.

As far as weight I can only guess. My German Shepard weighs about 110lbs, plus or minus a few, the wolf we encountered with the collar, even though skinny, was at least half again as big as my dog, with legs twice as long. And I am positive it could have killed my dog with minimal effort.



I am curious also, about what the rest of the pack does when one of their own is taken down. A fellow at the gun shop who was out hunting elk around Bonners Ferry, ID, said they counted over 20 wolves across an adjacent hillside, and no elk. That's an incredibly large pack, not sure I believe it, but will certainly carry extra ammo from now on.



I would think even a pack of 5 would need a deer or small elk about every other day, cant imagine what it would take to support twenty...

Them "Wolfenschnausers" are BIG:--)! Dont know much about their habits. I do know that hybrids are very territorial and protective of what they consider "theirs"! A friend had one. It(a male) was very unpredictable!

Pack accordingly. I wouldnt count on the pack turning and running when one of their members is down! They hunt in packs. IMHO, I would think they would continue aggressive behavior if you were their intended target or prey.
