I say go with Springfield TRP or Operator.

The best . 45 on the market as far as I am concerned. They shoot great right out of the box... Next, smooth, no kick what so ever. The only draw back, they have a bull barrel,

Non standard like the Mil-Spec and or Colt 1911. But they will last,,, shoot straight, and get the job done.



I am not a fan of non-American Firearms for obvious reasons,,, would not even consider them…. In this case, Made IN the USA stands tall.

Springfields (depending on the model) are either entirely made and assembled in Brazil or (for some models) at least the frames are made in Brazil and assembled in the US. To my knoweldge, all Springer frames are produced in Brazil. If I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

Between SIGs and CZ/CZ clones (EAA, etc) I don't have much desire to own anything else, sans certain niche guns just for sentimental reasons.



An original 1911 built the way John Browning intended it is a great handgun, but the advent of JHPs, wadcutters, etc and the buying public's fascination with guns that have no "play" in the parts makes it difficult to find one that can match the reliability of the P22X SIGs and CZ variants for even 2x the price point.



Shoot, you can by a Witness NIB for under $400 and out-shoot a $1,000 Kimber all day long.....competition and/or race guns notwithstanding.



If my life depended on a gun and in a pinch I couldn't find anything but crap ammo, I'd trust a P220 to deliver over anything that resembles a 1911, regardless of which world famous 'smith's name is etched in the slide... .

OH I donno... . I've got close to 7500 rounds through my Springfield 1911 now and the only problem I have had is the slide lock is worn out. $15. That gun is carried EVERY day in some of the worst conditions you can think of. Every time I have "tested" it (work 12 hours in 90* or -15 walk into the range and empty the mag) it has worked flawlessly. This gun has been primarily carried SOB as well... .



I'm not saying the P220 can't or won't do that..... I just know that everytime I hit the bang switch it's going to work, no questions. The thing I like the best about it is how simple it is to COMPLETELY dissassemble the weapon. Taking the grips off is the hardist part, and after that you don't even need a screwdriver. I'm not talking a field strip either.



OK, I'll step off the soapbox now as well. Guns are just another subject where people have to agree to disagree. Not One gun will work for everyone. But the 1911 is dang close!

I got a few of the EAA's too. Even have one old Springfield armory P9 LSP race gun.

My springfield Mil-Spec has a few thousand through her,,, 100% success rate. Just as reliable as a revolver.



I was ignorant to Springfield using parts from abroad but they are still an American Company ,,, Kimber is all USA,,, accept the wood grips, go figure.



I am in the process of buying a Kimber aluminum frame . 45... You should read all the bad pub on this one (this is another topic). The best part about Kimber is there warranty work. If you do not modify the pistol, they will warrant it past the stated one year. The alloy frame guns, get cracks, they will replace the frame and is some cases, replace the gun at no charge. This is great customer support IMHO.

I looked at kimbers and they look alright, But way more than I want to spend at 1100-1200 new. I would like a gun in the $400-$600 range max. Used is ok in my book.



I would like satin stainless double action and want a larger framed gun longer barrel, not real important to conceal. would be a backup hunt gun on hip carry.



What are the differences in single and double stack clips? not up on this.

I have a Glock 36 in single stack . 45 which has been nothing short of awesome. Also for my 1911 I have a Kimber Pro eclipse custom II which has to be my most favorite and nicest feeling gun I have. The kimbers like browning mags a touch better than the kimber mags ... dunno why but it certainly makes feeding the hungry chamber smooth as silk.



For a standard barrell I would go 1911 style as it is a backup sidearm. Tried and true they have proven themselves over andover. Make sure whatever you choose uses an external extractor if a 1911 is your gig. Internal ejection has shown some troubles on many 1911 models as it is relatively new tech for an old frame. I also like my Beretta 92FS which is yet another stable firearm that can take abuse till the cows come home. But that is chambered in 9mm only.



Poly guns like some sigs, all glocks and some wessons and springfields are very very dependable. They take a beating in the brush without marring and rust is not an issue as the only metal componentry is either sealed in poly or is a small "Pad" for the slide mech that can be treated with milspec or an alike compound that will keep for a long time.

Yea, me too. The Glock 20 is a freakin truck! And shooting full load 10mm's in the 1911 platform isnt pleasant after a short while.

My all time favorite shooting pistol was a Colt Delta Elite. That thing would shoot. I had a good target load cooked up that was probably equivalent to what the 40 S&W is today. The full boat rounds were a handful, though.

There is a thread on sigforum about a 'smith converting 220's to 10mm... something like $1700 + gun to do it... .

Not sure if they ever completed and shot one or not.

A steel Delta Elite would be nice to have, or even better the -0x/400 Custom Combat 10.

The longslide 38 super/9x23 is my favorite. 15 rds of 9x23 is pretty comforting. :-laf

I do like the 10mm though.
