I'm confused, on some mornings this week, there has been a wait for the grid heater to warm up before the engine can start. This has happened at just 60 degrees out. We did drive some 900 plus miles yesterday and got in at about 1:30 am this morning but at 8:30 am I hit the start button and she cranked right up! No waiting at all!
Is is a result of residual heat in he engine?

In a no wind condition it may not have fully cooled. I have seen these engines hold a lot of heat a lot longer than I expected. I do suppose it is 1K lbs of cast iron to cool down.

We spent the night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot with our Airstream hitched up (it's an RV thing)...
I was surprised too.
I didn't look at the coolant temp in the display (my bad, I forgot it is there!)

I was just curious... It ran great!

I used to fast start my second gen just to see how well it started without the grid. The coldest I tried was +10F. It started up very quickly but if you gave it some throttle it sputtered until it had idled for 30 seconds or so.
