Thanks, TDR Staff

Ever Notice this about PowerPukes? Ford Bashing!

Newest VW TDI

I know there has been some rumors around stating DC is considering 11/2 and 2 ton truck production, i was wondering if there was any truth to this or its just another urban myth?? and if there is some truth what kind of ETA is there for the design??

Where did you get that picture!!!

I can't seem to find anything on the web about a Ram 4500/5500.

All I get is GVW ratings when putting in 4500/5500 for a search term.

I have sent D/C a question about this because I really really need to go to one of these trucks in the future since I need 4X4.

For several years now I've seen an occasional Chevy, Ford, or Dodge Ram light truck on this side of the US-MX border with Mexico license plates and wearing badges with greater numbers than our standard US trucks. I've seen several obvious 1/2 ton trucks rebadged as 200 or 2000 series and likewise with "3/4-ton" and possibly "one-ton trucks. " Judging just from the tires, wheels, number of lug bolts, etc. , the trucks did not appear to have greater weight-carrying capacity, only larger numbers on their badges. I've not had the opportunity to examine their GVWR plates in the door frames but the trucks I've seen appeared to be rebadged only.

I could be mistaken of course; the "5500" truck pictured above could be a test mule but I'd bet it is one of those rebadged Mexican market trucks. I think we'd have read something in our TDR magazine if Dodge was actually planning to introduce a medium duty line. I think we did read a few months ago that D-C was not going to enter that market.

I'm not an insider, but from my observations of the automobile/light truck industry, I think it is more likely that if Dodge was actually running medium-duty test mules around the country for testing they would be camaflouged as standard 3500 Rams.

Harvey, Greg's red truck is not actually a real 5500. I think we all hear the same rumors, that Dodge will possibly join in around 2005-6. At least that's the rumor I've heard talking to some Dodge employee's I know.

I'm wondering what the incentive is for DC to bring out a RAM4500 or bigger since they own Freightliner.

Greg:

You got me. I wasn't smart enough to look down at your signature line and see that it was your truck.

Hey Greg, I think the 5500 badges would look right at home on mine.

Hey, I weighed in at the dump today with the family(something to do when it's 111 degrees) and it weighed in at 9,220 lb.

Now if I take away the weight for the occupants, that puts it at 8,800 lb.

Well Swanson,

Where the heck is it??????????????

Ok, Ok. I've been a little busy. I finally snapped a shot of the badges.

The truck gets some interesting stares, too. The best is the guy in a 2nd Gen Dually pulling into the Wendy's parking lot, and he and his wife are going all over it, trying to figure out if it was really a 5500.

With the 19. 5's it does look legitimate. C'mon Greg, 19. 5's, 19. 5's!
