Ordering 2010 HD?

I've not kept up on the new HD line and was wondering if Dodge makes a 4500 or perhaps a 5500 SRW 4x4 Quad cab? I'm thinking in the chassis cab to have a HD Camper built onto that I can use to go off road and touring the less traveled areas. I like my '03 Ram 3500 DRW but it sucks off road with the training wheels in back.

Thanks for the info.

That's too bad. #ad
I don't really want to buy a Ford,I've always owned Ram trucks. I saw this and we decided that we want to have something similar built. Does anybody know if its possible to convert the rear axle to SRW? What axle ratios are available?

I've done some rough guessing about the weight of the camper and its more then what Dodge recommends for a 3500. With my truck I'm over my weight limit, but I don't have to worry about warranty issues either. Does the 4500 use a different rear axle then the 3500 or is it just a beefed up 3500 with extra springs?

Different axles, why not get a 4500 or 5500 Dodge and change the wheels like Earth Roamer does, AFAIK, the Ford 450/550 only come in SRW stock also.

I would definitely go with different tire/wheel combo. I would try to duplicate the wheel combo like on the. AFAIK rig. But that still doesn't help me with the issue of DRW's. I've driven my friends Scotty 4x4 RV with DRW's and it just doesn't cut it even with his more aggressive tires.

Rickson truck has also done 19. 5" conversion rims for NYPD F550s. Give them a call 800-587-7633. I have a 2010 3500 C&C on order. For 2010 Dodge stopped offering a SRW option. I am going to convert it to SRW with 19. 5" rims/tires from Rickson (rims due in this week truck in 2 weeks). I know that the 3500's have front axle hub extensions that I will have to remove. The 4500 and 5500's do not have hub extensions so the rims are "flipped" from front to rear. I have run over 100,000 miles on my 245/70/R19. 5 Michelin's on my 2002 and still have 12/32" on them. 245/70R19. 5's are rated at 4900 lbs ieach n single configuration. If you need more capacity 285/70R19. 5 tires will hold 6395 lbs each in single configuration.

Thanks for the info Neil. When I get back into town I will give them a call. Sounds like the cat's a*s. I need to look into All Terrain tires in 19. 5 for the off road rides we'll be doing. Since I may be parking my 3500 when I get the new truck,I may look into converting it to SRW since I have access to a new take off bed for a SRW

Thanks-Casey.

They have a website where you can look at the tires Rickson Truck Wheels and Accessories. I run just M/S. I run some gravel/dirt roads in VT/NH with not problem. My truck has never been good in the mud with any tire. It is too heavy, 8800 all the time. I looked at a 4500 because of the larger axles but decided against it because of the available axle ratios and speed limitation of 75 mph. The lowest ratio you can get with an auto on a 4500 is a 4. 44. You can get a 4. 10 with a 6-spd manual. A 3500 you can get the 4. 10 with the automatic and 3. 73 with the manual. My new 3500 will have the same 2000 rpm engine speed at 70 mph as my 2002 that has a 6 spd man and 3. 54. I get 17-18 mpg every tank and I run fast (72mph+) at 8800 lbs.

I would think the "training wheels" would give you better stability for on highway use.
Also for driving on sand, but I guess you'll have to make up your own mind on
compromises. They put those duals on for a reason.

The dually is better for highway use, but terrible in the sand as you have to air down 4 in the rear and two in the front. Then air back up. Also the rears do not fit into the exiting tracks in the sand. I have a camper and have had both srw and now drw I am thinking for a long time about going to a super single. for winter traction reasons. I would also like to get a flat bed if anyone needs a 03 dually bed and all the lights and tail gate.

3500 C&C are not available for 2010 models due to the short production run Sept 2009 to Dec 31st 2009. 3500 C&C will be available again as a SRW with the new body style as a 2011 available in April 2010. I know this as a fact talked to the VP of Chrysler fleet when I ordered my 2010 3500 C&C the first day pricing was released 08-28-09. Many options were eliminated or set as standard to streamline the short production run. For example limited slip became standard and not available as an option. In addition only Med slate gray is available as the interior color. Take a look at the 2010 code guide at http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/2010/intro.pdf not only does it give all options available but also the MSRP and factory wholesale price (invoice).

Not to mention narrower trails. I've tried going down jeep trails and do good until the trail narrows just enough that I can't get the outside duel through. #@$%! Then it seems I have to back up for ever to get turned around.

2010 3500 CC are not available yet your ordered one?

My mistake I forgot to ad SRW after 2010 3500 C&C. The AR9 (single rear wheel) option code for 2010 3500 C&C is not available. The AR9 code will be available for 2011 3500 C&C. I ordered at 2010 3500 C&C DRW and am converting it to SRW.
